1 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52782
Dear Grace and Truth, Acts 11:16 "And I[Peter] remembered the word of THE LORD, how He used to say, 'John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.' Eph 4:5 one Lord, one faith, ONE BAPTISM, ONE baptism. Which is it? Water, or the Holy Spirit? And for the record(and not to sound spiteful), if you answer me back with "Mark 16:16" or "Acts 2:38", I will consider this discussion closed on my end. Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

1 Cor 15:29 shows something about baptism that you might not have thought of. The members in this church were being baptized in water for their dead relatives, (not that the practice was right but this is what they were doing) and Paul addressed it, this shows the necessity of baptism and the resurrection. Romans 6:3,4 says we are buried with Christ into his death, because we are dead to sins, and we are raised up out of the watery grave of baptism to walk in the newness of life, vs 5 say we are planted, (what does that mean, when you plant something you place it under something, earth or water, in this case water) we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection, (when we come up out of the water) Acts 8:36-38 the eunuch. "And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both "into the water", both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come "up out of the water" (the resurrection) the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. By the way hears the answer to the question "what if you were in the desert" This was a desert vs. 26. God will make a way! WAS THE EUNUCH SAVED? About Acts 11:16 that was a sign to the Jews vs 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were "astonished", (at the sign) as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now notice if they were saved by speaking with tongues which was an outward sign, how can baptism be an outward sign of an inward thing? It cannot be two signs for the same thing can it? Matt 16:19 Peter had the right to blind (command) and loose, he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord, which is by the authority of Jesus Christ. This is the ONE Baptism! The one that Jesus commanded.

Dear Grace and Truth, In I Corinthians 15:29, what the apostle Paul is saying, is,"If Jesus was not resurrected, then why are so many being baptized in HIs name? Are we baptized in the name of a dead Man?" In reference to Romans 6:3-4, baptism is symbolic of our burial and resurrection with Christ. It is not the water, or even the act, that brings about "newness of life". As it says in I Corinthians 15:45,"So also it is written, 'The first man, Adam, became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." It is the Holy Spirit quickens us, bringing us out of the grave we were in. Acts 8: In the text from Isaiah 53, which is the passage quoted here, the prophet is talking about a lamb(or, Lamb) being led to be sacrificed. Keep in mind, that when Jesus was crucified, it was in accordance with OT tradition. His blood was on the four corners of the alter(the cross): From His head, His hand, and His feet. He had fulfilled the law(Matthew 5:17), and was the end of the law(Romans 10:4). Acts 11:16 is a sign not only to the Jews, but the Gentiles as well, for the Jews were rebuking him for eating with the Gentiles. And all who are God's children have been baptized with the Holy Spirit. Remember, Jesus is the Living Water, which cleanses our souls. 1 John 5:1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 1 John 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. 1 John 5:4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world--our faith. If we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, then we become children of God(5:1) It is this faith that gives us victory.(5:4). And if we truly do love God then we will keep His commandments(5:2, James 2:17). Our faith must show evidence of existing, or it is not salvific faith(James 2:19). But it is not what we do that saves us, but the Grace of God, and the Holy Spirit(John 6:63). Peace be with you!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

4 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | Grace and Truth | 52935
1 Cor 15:29 Paul use the word "they" and not "we" so if the reference was to ,"If Jesus was not resurrected", he would include himself, because as he stated in the beginning of the chapter, that he "delivered unto them first of all that which I also received" therefore they were being baptized for other people who have passed on. 6) What does Paul refer to when he speaks of "baptism for the dead"? (29) - Of the many different explanations that have been offered, the one making most sense to me is that Paul is speaking of the inconsistency of those who deny the resurrection while at the same time practicing a form of "vicarious baptism". Notice that Paul refers to "they" who were doing this, not "we" (i.e., the apostles). Paul in this passage is neither openly condemning or justifying the practice. He simply uses the practice of others to demonstrate the inconsistency of such practice when denying the resurrection of the dead. Whether we should practice such a rite as "baptism for the dead" today must be determined from passages elsewhere. All we find elsewhere concerning baptism is that it requires faith and repentance of the one being baptized. This would preclude the practice of "vicarious baptism." "In reference to Romans 6:3-4, baptism is symbolic of our burial and resurrection with Christ. It is not the water, or even the act, that brings about "newness of life". As it says in I Corinthians 15:45,"So also it is written, 'The first man, Adam, became a living soul.' The last Adam became a life-giving spirit." It is the Holy Spirit quickens us, bringing us out of the grave we were in". In your above statement, what grave are you refering too? You stated, "that it's not the water, but John 3:5 says we must be born of the water and the spirit to enter the kingdom of God. So sense Jesus made referance to the water, and the spirit, something must be there, and it's there because he said so! When we look at Romans 6:3-5 we must notice the power in being baptized for the remission of our sins. Philppians 3:10-11 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering, being made conformable unto his death: 11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. This is what makes baptism in the name of Jesus so Powerful, He said, "the WORDS THAT I SPEAK UNTO YOU, THEY ARE SPIRIT, AND THEY ARE LIFE". This is why when Jesus spoke Mark 16:16 This is our SALVATION! 1John 5:1-4, that you brought into light, dont leave out vs.5,6,8 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? 6 This is he that came by WATER and BLOOD, even Jesus Christ; not by WATER ONLY, BUT BY WATER, AND BLOOD. AND IT IS THE SPIRIT THAT BEARETH WITHNESS, BECAUSE THE SPIRIT IS TRUTH. 8 AND THERE ARE THREE THAT BEAR WITHNESS IN EARTH, THE SPIRIT,AND THE WATER, AND THE BLOOD: AND THESE THREE AGREE IN ONE. |

Dear Grace and Truth, The grave I was refering to was figurative, as we were "dead in our sins" before we came to salvation. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. I stand by what I said refering to Romans 6:3-4,that it is not water that cleanses our soul, but the blood of the Christ. No only His blood, but His water as well. Notice in John 19:34--"But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water."(KJV) These are the blood and water that purge our unrighteousness. We are then baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit. After all, can anything which is under heaven, defiled by man and our sins, truly make us right with God? Should we perform the symbolic act? Of course. Again, it is the difference between "demonic" and "salvific" faith. But it is not a condition for salvation. Just as we are commanded to abstain from uncleanness; but if we do sin, are we then "unsaved"? No. Concerning Philippians 3:10-11. If you would, take a look at the immediate preceding verse, v.9:"And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:"(KJV) Our righteousness, as Christians, comes through faith, and that through God's grace. I Peter 1:3-5 "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time."(KJV) Notice, Peter says that it is God's mercy, and our faith that brings salvation. Lastly, again in I Peter--1:18-19 "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"(KJV) He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

My friend, What I am saying is, in this whole thing about salvation, that water baptism is included in God's grace through faith plan, and I stand by that! Everywhere salvation is someone has been baptized by immersion, and your question is weather or not it is connected with salvation? If we sreach the book of Acts carefully we can see that baptism is connected with salvation by garce, Acts 2:38, 8:36-38, 10:44-48, 16:30-34, 19:1-5, 22:16. If baptism by immersion was not necessary for salvation it would not be in the bible. Now this must be said, IT TAKES FAITH IN GOD'S WORD TO BELIEVE THAT POINT! GREAT FAITH! I say that because many have been taught for so long that baptism is not a part of God's salvation plan, but the bible teaches different. Men are to Hear the gospel, Romans 10:17. Believe it John 20:30,31 Repent of their sins Luke 13:3,5 Confess the name of Jesus Christ before men Matt 10:32,33 Be baptized for the remission of sins, Acts 22:16; 2:38; Live faithful to the Lord, Rev 2:10 You have seen many alter calls that don't include these points, because men are teaching for doctrine, the commandments of men. Matt 15:9 Baptism is something men submit to, no one can baptized their self, because we are dead because of sins. |

Dear Grace and Truth, I agree that water baptism is one of the fruits of a changed life, that if one truly is saved, then they will want to be baptized. But, it is not the baptism itself that does the saving. Holy Spirit baptism does the saving. Water baptism is how we show the world that we do accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour. Just as in I Corinthians 6, when Paul says,"...neither drunkards...shall inherit the Kingdom of God." It is not the act of drinking(as there are various refernces to support the drinking of wine), it is the desire for it instead of the Word of the LORD(Ephesians 5:18) he is condemning. Water baptism does not save, but if you are saved you will want to be immersed. Just as if you ae saved, you will want to follow all the rest of His commands. I truly do believe that we have pretty well exhausted this argument; if one or the other's mind has not been changed by now, it likely never will. He is exalted, the King is exalted on High!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

What is your difinition of (Holy Spirit baptism) and show me the scriptures that will bring light to this point? "Water baptism does not save, but if you are saved you will want to be immersed. Just as if you ae saved, you will want to follow all the rest of His commands". Your above statement is bold, Acts 22:16, 1Peter 3:20-21, and the text that is said to be not inspired Mark 16:16. I don't want to weary you about this subject, but others will bring it up agan. In John 19:34 But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. If one could properly explain the significants of the water here then maybe we can have a changed mind. If water has nothing to do with cleansing the soul and spirit of men, why is it mentioned here? We know the blood of Jesus cleanses us from sin, but why the water being seperate and distink from the blood coming out of the body of Jesus our Lord? Are they not together? Why? Was God trying to tell us something? Did Jesus know what he was saying to Nicodemus in John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I SAY UNTO THEE, (EXCEPT A MAN BE BORN OF WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT , HE CANNOT ENTER INTO THE KINGDOM OF GOD!) These are the things that puzzle me, when I here teachings saying the opposite of what Jesus is saying. You must be born again! vs.10 Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master (teacher) of Israel, and knowest not these things? I know the teachings of Paul tells us about the grace of God, apart from works! But I know, and have never found an explicit statement where he (Paul) saying baptism by immersion was included as one of the works he was speaking about! For he himself was told to "arise and be baptized and wash away his sins calling on the name of the Lord". Acts 22:16. |
