Subject: What does water baptism do? |
Bible Note: 1 Cor 15:29 shows something about baptism that you might not have thought of. The members in this church were being baptized in water for their dead relatives, (not that the practice was right but this is what they were doing) and Paul addressed it, this shows the necessity of baptism and the resurrection. Romans 6:3,4 says we are buried with Christ into his death, because we are dead to sins, and we are raised up out of the watery grave of baptism to walk in the newness of life, vs 5 say we are planted, (what does that mean, when you plant something you place it under something, earth or water, in this case water) we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection, (when we come up out of the water) Acts 8:36-38 the eunuch. "And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both "into the water", both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. 39 And when they were come "up out of the water" (the resurrection) the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. By the way hears the answer to the question "what if you were in the desert" This was a desert vs. 26. God will make a way! WAS THE EUNUCH SAVED? About Acts 11:16 that was a sign to the Jews vs 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were "astonished", (at the sign) as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Spirit. Now notice if they were saved by speaking with tongues which was an outward sign, how can baptism be an outward sign of an inward thing? It cannot be two signs for the same thing can it? Matt 16:19 Peter had the right to blind (command) and loose, he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord, which is by the authority of Jesus Christ. This is the ONE Baptism! The one that Jesus commanded. |
