Bible Note: You wrote: "Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it." I disagree. There is nothing in the text of Luke 18 to indicate that Jesus is rejecting "doctrine." Doctrine is the teaching of Scripture, so it is nonsense that the teacher would be saying that His teaching does not matter. You wrote: "They understand John 14:6" John 14:6 IS doctrine, just like everything else Jesus said. More likely, Jesus is talking about children acutely realizing their need and utter dependence upon someone else for their survival. Children have nothing to offer in the way of self-sustainance and have to rely completely on someone outside themselves for what they need. Just like little children, we have nothing to offer God to merit or earn salvation; we must merely receive what God freely bestows upon His people. As the hymn goes, "Nothing in my hand I bring, / Simply to the cross I cling." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". --Joe! |
