1 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Mommapbs | 100014
Many believers think that their responsibility is to bring people to church so they can hear the Gospel. Is this what Jesus had in mind when He told us to make disciples? "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Matthew 28:19,20 "but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth." Acts 1:8 "but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;" 1 Peter 3:15 How do you "share the Gospel?" |

Dear mmomapbs, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; I am all for personal sharing of the gospel, but the great commission (matt 28:19,20) was given to the the church leaders who were the eleven disciples (Matt 28:16). I am not taking this passage so literally as to think it applied to them alone! What I do believe is that, the principle which we may safely take from Jesus' command, is that the church elders are the ones whose task it is to lead the rest of us into spreading the "Good News". It is important and neccessary that the saints be equipped prior to going into the world. We would'nt send out babes among the wolves, would we? Sometimes I think we (especially American christians) are too individualistic. The old "Lone Ranger" mind set. John |

["but sanctify Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready to make a defense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the hope that is in you, yet with gentleness and reverence;" 1 Peter 3:15] Great verse of scripture that points to the Holiness of Christ that needs to be exhibited by chaste living and not something from self-effort;.... Burning oil instead of wick. |

4 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | John Reformed | 100289
The Bible contains many commands; exhortations and examples of personal holiness. However, God has ordained grace as the means by which we are made able to do what is pleasing in His sight. We may have the will to do what God has commanded, but for power to obey we must seek God's grace. Not one of saints will have reason to boast in His presence. Humbly we will fall on our faces and cast our crowns at His feet. John |

I prefer this by Watchman Nee: God will not give me humility or patience or holiness or love as separate gifts of His grace. He is not a retailer dispensing grace to us in doses, measuring out some patience to the impatient, some love to the unloving, some meekness to the proud, in quantities that we take and work on as kind of capital. He has given only one gift to meet all our need .. His Son Christ Jesus, and as I look to Him to live out His life in me, He will be humble and patient and loving and everything else I need -- in my stead. Remember the word in the first Epistle of John: "God gave unto us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath the life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not the life" [1 John 5:11,12]. The life of God is not given us as a separate item; the life of God is given us in the Son. It is "eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" [Rom. 6:23]. Our relationship to the Son is our relationship to the life. It is a blessed thing to discover the difference between Christian graces and Christ; to know the difference between meekness and Christ, between patience and Christ, between love and Christ. Remember again what is said in 1 Corinthians 1:30: "Christ Jesus ... was made unto us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption." The common conception of sanctification is that every item of the life should be holy; but that is not holiness, it is the fruit of holiness. Holiness is Christ. It is the Lord Jesus being made over to us to be that. So you can put in anything there: love, humility, power, self-control. Today there is a call for patience: He is our patience! Tomorrow the call may be for purity: He is our purity! He is the answer to every need. That is why Paul speaks of "the fruit of the Spirit" as one [Gal. 5:22] and not of "fruits" as separate items. God has given us His Holy Spirit, and when love is needed the fruit of the Spirit is love; when joy is needed the fruit of the Spirit is joy. It is always true. It does not matter what your personal deficiency, or whether it is a hundred and one different things, God has one sufficient answer .. His Son Jesus Christ, and He is the answer to every human need. |

"God will not give me humility or patience or holiness or love as separate gifts of His grace." (Watchman Nee) But the Apostle Paul said: Rom 12:6 Since we have gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, each of us is to exercise them accordingly: if prophecy, according to the proportion of his faith; What am I missing here? Grace and not "graces" Grace is consquencial to the abiding presence of Christ within you. Remember He is all in all. Notice how God says this to Paul in Paul's situation where he needed some sort of "deliverance from pain" grace: 2 Cor. 12:9 (NASB-U) And He has said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness." Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ* may dwell in me. *All of the "Grace"[Christ Himself] 1 Cor. 12:4-5 (NASB-U) Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same *Spirit. [5] And there are varieties of ministries, and the same **Lord. *Grace **Grace, again How'd I do, John? |

Well Ken...Since we rely and trust Christ to save us and keep us; we also rely on the Holy Spirit help and enlighten us; and the Father that He provide for us and forgive us...I don't see anything wrong with either position. So long as our dependence is upon the Father, Son and Holy Ghost we can't help but be safe. God Bless, John |

Yeah! That's the ticket. The key to success in this is that we LOVE Him: Matthew 22:37 (NASB-U) "...... 'You shall LOVE THE Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' Why? 1 Cor. 8:3 (NASB-U) but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him. |

Sure. But if you desire of Him and become what He desires, what is our responsibility? If we don't know how to accomplish the task what should we recognize about ourselves that needs to be rectified?

Ken Our responsiblility is to be obedient and surrender all (die to self). God wants to work through us. Anything that we do of our own is of the flesh and God desires us to walk, live, by the Spirit. That which is born of flesh is flesh and that which is born of spirit is spirit. Our responsibility is to walk by the spirit (our new nature). |

I can accept that except I believe God wants us to work through Him and not the other way around. Get my drift? Hence the need to be baptized in the Holy Spirit. Jesus does that. Then we are to seek to have the mind of God in everything....Just like Jesus, the man.
14 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Asis | 100344
Jesus the man filled with the Holy Spirit and power. God does not want you to do the work. He wants you to be HIS instrument of righteousness. An instrument does not play itself. God is the musician we are the instruments. When we are baptized with the Holy Spirit we have the Spirit of God which knows the mind of God living inside of us (1 Cor 2:16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.) Jesus did nothing of Himself. John 12:49 “For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. 50“I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.” And again John 14:9 9Jesus said* to him, “Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10“Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works. Are we better than Jesus to do what we think God wants done or to do it our way by our might or is Jesus our model for Kingdom living. To do and be in Him 24/7. 1 Cor. 1:30. Read Galatians 3 and meditate on what God says for us to DO. |

[God does not want you to do the work.] Yes He does. He just doesn't want us doing our thing. Jesus didn't do His own thing and He is always our example for our attitude.. [He wants you to be HIS instrument of righteousness. An instrument does not play itself. God is the musician we are the instruments.] I well understand. Thank you [When we are baptized with the Holy Spirit?] When are we baptized in the Holy Spirit? How do we know we are? [we have the Spirit of God which knows the mind of God living inside of us] How do we know that in a practical way that we can be certain that when we function we are functioning in Him as He desires? |

He wants to do the work through you. [same idea different way of saying it]. If I do it then I can boast, "Look what I have done for God." If he does it through me who can I boast in? Do it by demonstration of the Holy Spirit. When Jesus baptizes us in the Holy Spirit we have an experience. Mine was being overcome by the power of God and the next day speaking with other tongues. Tongues is one way which God uses to give evidence of Jesus baptizm with the Holy Spirit but the evidence is not limited to tongues. When your spirit get energized by the Holy Spirit you know it. This baptism of which we speak is for service. God promised that He would give us Power from on High. He turned 11 disciples into apostles on the day of Pentecost. What is your hearts desire? Have you had an experience of the cross. Do you die to self daily? When I am not functioning in Him as He desires I get convicted. Which leads to repentence. I know I am in Him because He says I am in Him. I know I am a son of God and His righteousness just because I believe Him. This is how I know He said it. (Numbers 23:19; Romans 3:4) I have had an experience of Him. His promises have become a reality in my life. Proverbs 3:5,6; Proverbs 4:20,21. There are no steps to do just trusting to be.(Yoda) Asis |
