1 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Ray | 100355 | ||
Hi Ken, You are doing well in expressing yourself, but I disagree on your capitalization of Love. 1 John has several "God is" verses. "God is Light", 1:5. "He Himself is the propitiation for our sins", 2:2. "He/ is righteous", 2:29. "He/ is righteous", 3:7. "God/ is love", 4:8. "God/ is love", 4:16. So I would say that Love is not a name for God. Love is the gift that He gives. He gives the holy spirit to us. Another penciled in verse of lower case "spirit". 1 John 4:13, "By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His *spirit." His love is perfected in us. By the way I have no problem with capitalization of the Helper, the Holy Spirit, for He will teach you all things. From the heart, Ray |

[So I would say that Love is not a name for God. Love is the gift that He gives. He gives the holy spirit to us.] Contextually, Ray, I believe you to be quite wrong. I can't go into it but volumes are written about God being beyond our wildest imagination in regards to love. To say His name isn't synomonus with love is to not understand that. Love is the very heart of God and one might say Jesus is the expression [lips] of that heart. No, I think His name is LOVE. |

Hi Ken, Let me first make a comment on how people sometimes put stress on a word such as LOVE and by so doing make the capitalization unclear. You are saying that God is Love. If one writes that GOD IS LOVE it is just like the Hebrew's all caps and it is all left up to interpretation as far as upper or lower case. So my suggestion is that we should stay away from all caps in a discussion like this. The meaning of love is different when looking at the Greek. Volumes have been written about "agape" love of which 1 John 4:8 speaks. When looking at context, the connection between 1 John 4:8 and 4:16 is the spirit of love that has been given to us, verse 13. I understand and agree. "Agape" is what I'm after in any reference to God. I apologize for not being more clear on that. I have learned that to be almost a geographical kind of thing, i.e., Agape-Kingdom of God-abiding, experience. Step out of it, and you're own yer own...back in the flesh, but not unto death..but for correction and adminishion. Stay in it and stay in the mind of Christ to ".....be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord." 1 Cor. 15:58 (NASB) The kingdom is where the "Rest" is. Hebrews 4:10 (NASB) For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Let's hear more, Ray. Ken |
