1 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | bstudent | 118148
This slave is given the responsibility to dispense food (no doubt spiritual food) at the proper time. It sounds like those given a position of leadership in the Christian congregation. This position apparently would continue until Christ returns, so it must refer to a class of individuals, not any one person. Some would prove faithful and be given more authority and others unfaithful and lose out completely. I think the following 2 parables about the virgins and talents (Matt 25:1-28)relate to this slave as well. Noteably, at Rev 14:1-5, the 144,000 are referred to as virgins and no falsehood was found in their mouths. This verse deserves our utmost attention because Jesus knows who it is and who it isn't. He appoints the slave so it's likely that the sheep hear his voice through this "spokesman." Thus, finding the truth that sets us free hinges on identifying this slave correctly. That's important! Jesus said "a little flock" would receive positions in the kingdom. (Luke 12:32) He also said that there were "other sheep not of this fold" that he would bring in. This little flock may be the same slave. Perhaps they help the "great crowd" exercise faith in the Lamb and thus survive the tribulation. (Rev 7:14) If we could just identify the group that truly shows brotherly unifying love among its members, remains "no part of the world" because they been sanctified (set apart for sacred purpose) by the truth of God's word, and that is preaching the good news of God's kingdom, they will lead us to the "slave." (John 13:34,35; 17:14-17; Matt 24:14) Hope we find it and have the courage to stick with it because as Jesus said: "On this account the world hates you." (John 15:19) |

2 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | JIML | 118183
bstudent, If you are trying to get a complete understanding of who the faithfull and discreet slave is, Jesus gives us the answer, the same as he gave Peter when he asked in the parallel account found at Luke 12:35-38.One contextual fact to keep in mind, is that Jesus was stressing the importance of BEING IN READINESS. His disciples asked him a threefold question as recorded at Matt 24:3. They were looking for a SIGN."When? When? When? What will be the sign of your Coming (presence), and of the conclusion of the system of things. In order to get a full picture instead of only seeing a piece of the puzzle, we must read the entire message as recorded in Gods word (Matt chapters 24-25 and Luke 12:35-38). This is what we find when we look at this passage on "Who is the faithfull and discreet slave" in it's context: 1)After asking the question to what will be the SIGN, Jesus starts by saying,"See to it that no one misleads you"(Matt 24:4). He gave a clear warning and stresses this point throughout, since he knew that they were looking for a SIGN. 2) Matt 24:36-44 After giving the parable of the fig tree, Jesus mentions at verse 36 "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angeles of heaven nor the Son, but the Father alone". He describes the suddeness of His coming and compares it to the days of Noah. Verse 44 sets the stage for the question by saying, "For this reason you BE READY too; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not thik He will. 3) Jesus asks the question. (matt 24:45;Luke 12:42) In lukes Gospel, it's interesting to note the details that are given and the question that Peter asked Jesus at verse 41. He asked,"Lord, are you addressing this parable to us, or to EVERYONE else as well?" 4) Jesus answers Peter: Luke 12:42-48. You'll notice that there are several individual slaves mentioned here and the different outcomes upon his arrival. Verse 48 is a particular verse to consider for it says,"but to the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. And from EVERYONE who has been given much shall much be required; and TO WHOM they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more. So it appears, based on context, that he was stressing the need to BE READY! I encourage you to read these chapters in their entirety,so that the Holy Scriptures can clear up any difficulty or misunderstandings(2Tim 3:16),and to get more details than this brief summary. It is just as vitally important that We too BE READY on the day of his coming(presence), for we and nobody knows when the day is except for God(Compare 2Thess 2:1-3). It would be helpful to look up various translations of the Bible on this scripture as well as the greek manuscripts for accuracy. May God Bless you in your efforts to learn His most precious truths found in his word the Bible, and may he find us all to be a"faithfull and sensible slave"(NASB) Sincerely, JIML |

3 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | bstudent | 118191
You mention Jesus coming(presence) which others overlook. Do you agree that the Gospel chapters dealing with the sign of his coming(coming) show what will be happening so as to identify when he begins his reign in the kingdom power? The following verses also clearly indicate he will begin ruling while the majority reject his position but put their trust in governments he promises to destroy.(Psalm 110:1,2; Luke 19:27; Rev 11:18; 1 Cor 15:25; Daniel 2:44) I still believe this slave has a special role as 'dispenser of spiritual food' that will help sheeplike ones stay awake. These are Christ's brothers that if we help them, it is just as if we helped Jesus himself. (Matt 25:21-46)
4 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | kalos | 118207
WHO IS THE "FAITHFUL AND WISE SERVANT?" 'The Watchtower Society teaches that God has a latter day "prophet" on earth today to reveal His will to all Jehovah's Witnesses. The name of this special representative is the "Faithful and Discreet Slave." The identity of this special Servant is the subject of this article. 'Where do the Society's leaders claim to get their authority to oversee the interests of Jehovah's Witnesses? The answer is found in their interpretation of Matthew 24:45, which reads, " Who is the faithful and wise servant, whom his Lord hath made ruler over His household, to give them meat in due season?" (KJV) 'They interpret this passage by claiming that Jesus predicted that God would establish a special "Servant" on the earth having the sole spiritual authority to represent Him. The Servant would act as the sole interpreter of His Word. The following 4 points summarize the basis of the Watchtower Society's current teaching about this servant: ____________________ "A class of people", "little flock" ____________________ 'A. The Servant is a CLASS OF PEOPLE - 144,000 Anointed Ones (also called the Body of Christ, Christian Congregation, LITTLE FLOCK, or Spirit-Begotten Ones). This class has been expanding to its full number since the days of Jesus, especially since the year 1914. Most of them have died and now reign in heaven with Jesus. In 1919, this class was appointed by Jesus over all His spiritual belongings. 'B. While the Witnesses are taught that The Servant class has been serving "spiritual food" since A.D. 33, the modern Servant class conveys spiritual knowledge through the publications (and official representatives) of the Watchtower Society, beginning with the first issue of Zion's Watchtower magazine in 1879. 'C. Naturally, the Watchtower leaders claim membership in the Faithful and Wise Servant class. In this way, they can maintain control, acting as the communicator of God's will to all the Witnesses. The Society's leadership claims to be the "governing body" for the larger Servant class and the millions of other Witnesses worldwide. 'D. Since the Servant class is God's sole means of communication, Witnesses must be in total agreement with its teachings. They must submit and conform to all the instruction of the Servant class. Jehovah's Witnesses must believe what the Servant class teaches through The Watchtower magazine.' The apostle Paul claimed to be a communicator of God's will and gained many enemies within the congregation as a result. Do you suppose Billy Graham or the pope believe they are communicating God's will? Such a claim would need to be backed up by works. Do you know how Jesus said to identify those that would be communicating God's will? Good fruits - Jesus is the prince of peace and his kingdom is no part of this world. Thus his disciples should be known as peacemakers that don't put their trust in corrupt manmade governments their leader has promised to destroy.
