Hi, bstudent! Some times a rose is just a rose... There are many Teachings offered to us by Jesus Christ... some are very exact, some are very clear, some seem purposely ambiguous, and some are quite generic... You (and your study group) seem to be complicating a generic formula... it is just as the parable of those who being the last will be first... each one of us is called by God (as the people of Israel were--yet the Gentiles answered more readily...) to be a servant/slave (we are slaves of that which we serve) to serve in the kingdom... Jesus' example is not that there are "special slaves" but that as His servants we have a different code of conduct than that of the world! If we behave as the world (the wicked servant) our Master will return on the least expected day/hour and bring upon us His Judgment... we will be judge according to our state of grace (the good servant) or disgrace (the wicked servant)... Jesus cautions us to be alert, to be conscious of His return and how He wishes to find us! True, as the parable of the coins states: those who are confided much, much will be demanded from them... James says it this way: Only a few of you, my brothers, should be teachers, bearing in mind that we shall receive a stricter judgement. (James 3:1) The above passage, though generic, is directed strictly to those in the Faith; while the original passage of your query is generic for all who come to serve/believe! God Bless! Angel |

3 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | bstudent | 118242
What "code of conduct" does the "faithful slave" have that differ him from the world? It appears obvious that even the evil slave was entrusted by Jesus with responsibility, thus even he must have began as a Christian. What conduct do you feel clearly differentiates Christians from the world?
4 | Who is this "slave"? | Matt 24:45 | JCrichton | 118307
"What "code of conduct" does the "faithful slave" have that differ him from the world?" Your answer is found in Jesus' comparison: 'Who, then, is the wise and trustworthy servant whom the master placed over his household to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed that servant if his master's arrival finds him doing exactly that. In truth I tell you, he will put him in charge of erverything he owns. But if the servant is dishonest and says to himself, "My master is taking his time," and sets about beating his fellow servants and eating and drinking with drunkards, his master will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not know. The master will cut him off and send him to the same fate as the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.' (Matthew 24:45-51) To understand that Jesus' words are directed at all who are called to serve we simply have to look at the previous verse: 24:44. It refers to those who are listening to Him and would believe... the unbelievers already have the Word as their judgment! The "Code of conduct" is defined by Jesus... The "faithfull slave" distinguishes himself from the world by accepting and living Jesus' Word (commandment). God Bless! Angel |
