Hello. This has puzzled me for a long time. Does anyone have any idea what this is about. I noted two things: that Jesus was talking about the 2nd coming and that it sounds like a bad thing (corpse, vultures).
2 | What does Matthew 24: 28 mean? | Matt 24:28 | Emmaus | 23963
The RSV translation of Matt 24:28 has it: "Wherever the body is ther the eagles will be gathered together." The passage refers to the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD and the eagles are the eageles on the standards of the Romans who scavange the city laid waste. In the Old testament the translation is "vultures." In either case it refers to scavangers, symbolizing the pagan nations who brought suffering on Isreal. Dt 28:49, Hab 1:8, Hos 8:1. |
