1 | What is the abomination of desolation? | Matt 24:15 | ominous | 157600
thanks for the response kalos, aside from the opinions of interpreters, isnt it plausible that the antichrist is not necessarily one man but a nation or power structure? or even a system? as when stated in revelations 1316-17 that those who would not recieve the mark... now to have a "mark" in your forehead or right hand could this not symbolize concurrence with, or support of a system, or philsophy? as in your forehead could mean, to "believe" and right hand, to "uphold"? i know there are many folds to the scriptures, as things tend to cycle back around as said in ecclesiastes 1:9 "the thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun." also note that it says in revelations 13:18, " let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man," does not necessarily mean an individual man, as the number six also signifies the day in which man was made. no contention, just curiousity; as i have always been one to seek, and not follow. oominous.
2 | What is the abomination of desolation? | Matt 24:15 | CDBJ | 157623
Greetings, Your idea that the abomination of desolation could be a “nation or power structure” rather then a man deserves an E for effort. Actually, the abomination of desolation is an “act” that is committed or performed by a person; it’s not the actual person himself as you suggest. This condition, abomination of desolation, was exhibited in the Jewish temple on another occasion when Antiochus Epiphanies sacrificed a pig in the temple; that situation started the famous Maccabean revolution. The Anti Christ, spoken of by John and referred by Paul as the man of sin, will virtually perform this same type of a situation when “he sits” in the temple demanding worship. 2 Thes. 2:3-6 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; [4] Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. [5] Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? [6] And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. I think the “key” to this scenario as it was taught by Jesus resides in first five words of the verse. When ye therefore shall see! Matthew 24:15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) Notice that when Jesus made the statement, the one in the temple hadn’t taken a seat yet! Paul, by revelation form God, was shown what this man of sin was actually going to do in the temple; which included taking a seat and this was not a position that a mortal man was allowed to do; only God sits. first off i did not suggest that anything had to do with any one person. that was the comment of someone else. second, since there is no temple now, and there are plans to build one, are the two not connected? that is the new temple may serve as the platform for these things to occur?
4 | What is the abomination of desolation? | Matt 24:15 | CDBJ | 157659
I agree that the temple will have to be in place before those things mentioned can be carried out; that's kind of a given, if you know what I mean! CDBJ |

7 | What is the abomination of desolation? | Matt 24:15 | ominous | 157671
no! i think it would be unwise to be confident in my salvation. as we all have things to work on in ourselves. even if we don't offend outwardly (in actions), we still offend inwardly (in thoughts). we must continually strive for improvement, but i am confident, in the hope, that i might be saved! it's the Lord's way of keeping us humble. the more we read (and contemplate), the more we realize that we need work! i hope i am understanding your question.

Hello ominous, Nobody will disagree that we need continuous work. However, this does not preclude confidence in salvation. This verse seems very clear to me: 1 John 5:12 (ESV) Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. Steve |
