1 | should I avoid the appearance of evil? | Matt 18:6 | Emmaus | 126457
kalos, It is interesting to note that at time when secular governments have abondoned the recognition of "common law marriage" let alone tarditional Christian marriage, we have people in the Church venue adopting and advocating the idea. Has the church become a Las Vegas wedding (and baptism)chapel that people can rent if and when they feel in the mood, with the right to feel aggrieved if the chapel is not open for business on their terms. What is the difference between a contact and a covenant? Committment to the other party and the community, because the community is also effected by the success or failure of the marriage and family. A contact is an exchange of goods and services, like protituiton (a cash based system)or living in sin which is more based on a semi-long term barter system. A covenant is a mutal irrevocable giving of the entire self without any reservation, which has blessings and curses associated with the keeping or failing to keep the covenant. Marriage is a covenant. All one has to do is look at our society to see the obvious ill effects of the absence or breakdown of marriage on the whole community. Common Sense 101. It (common sense) existed even before the Bible. Emmaus |

2 | should I avoid the appearance of evil? | Matt 18:6 | Stultis the Fool | 126461
I would like to add that my posts to this subject do NOT advocate the taking of the union of marriage lightly... On the other hand, I certainly imply that we do not take seriously enough the act of intercourse. Here it is dismissed as sin quite casually, but I believe the scriptures show that the implications of the act are much more far-reaching then some would like to admit.
3 | should I avoid the appearance of evil? | Matt 18:6 | Theo-Minor | 126464
I gave good examples. I backed it up with examples. I expected opinions. No one has refuted anything. A man and a woman come together and they are one flesh. This is a covenant. No one has demonstrated that such a union does NOT constitute a marriage. No one has demonstrated that I am wrong. This has been even more nasty than I ever expected from Christians. I have been ridiculed, insulted, called names, rebuked, and otherwise ostracized ... and without a shred of substantiation to support any of this behavior. Ban the topic. That's what you do with all the others. I expect it of you. We wouldn't want to discuss the credibility of an alternate point of view. This is more like an opinion forum. Well heap another slab of pride on my plate, thank you very much. I've never been treated so poorly, and every one of you that insulted me the way you did, I have grave doubts of your true Christianity. Try reading the scriptures. And while you're at it, explain why David had both wives AND concubines, and why God would have given him many more things "like these" to have prevented the one act of adultery. You people are a disgrace to treat another the way you have. And I forgive you. Theo-Minor |

4 | Sex only after called husband and wife. | Matt 18:6 | Searcher56 | 126475
Theo-Minor, show me one case a couple was NOT married (called husband and wife) BEFORE they had sex. We will not tolerate any misuse of Scripture. If we don't stand against error, we should be ashamed. By the way David did commit adultery when he had sex with Bathsheba, and Nathan scolded him for it. Searcher
5 | Sex only after called husband and wife. | Matt 18:6 | Stultis the Fool | 126477
Searcher... When you read such as "he went in unto her," are you confused about why he "went in unto her," or what went on when he "went in unto her," or in what order of actions the scriptures conclude that such marriages took place?
6 | Sex only after called husband and wife. | Matt 18:6 | Theo-Minor | 126480
I concur with this. He goes in unto her, and knows her, and she is his wife. Theo-Minor |

7 | Sex only after called husband and wife. | Matt 18:6 | Searcher56 | 126484
WRONG ... show me one case where this is true. If fact, Eve was called Adam's wife (Gen 3:20) before they had sex (Gen 4:1). Genesis 4:17 says Cain had relations with his wife, not had relations so became his wife. Should I go on? |
