In Matthew 16 Jesus tells us to avoid the appearance of evil. Is this advice for all Christians, mature Christians or just for Christian leaders? In particular, should 2 new church members be baptised if they are engaged and living together? |

Abstain from every form of evil In Matthew 16 Jesus does not tell us to avoid the appearance of evil. The phrase "appearance of evil" appears only once in the King James Version of the Bible -- 1 Thessalonians 5:22. Where in v. 22 the KJV has the words "all appearance", in the literal Greek it is "every form". So what it says literally is "Abstain from every form of evil." 1 Thessalonians 5:22 American Standard Version abstain from every form of evil. NASB abstain from every form of evil. New King James Version Abstain from every form of evil. ESV Abstain from every form of evil. |
