1 | From where is the KIngdom Lydia? | Dan 2:31 | EdB | 60222 | ||
Ateo As a side bar, I think I now know where you are coming from. The book you reference "Who Wrote the Gospels" sounds like the work of a very liberal theologian. Many people have trouble accepting Daniel as written in 600-500 BC time frame because of the accuracy of his prophecy and feel the Book had to be written after the fact. What they forget is even if Daniel was written in 200 BC, which it wasn’t, it still hit the most important prophecy it contained right on the head, the entry of Jesus in Jerusalem more than 200 years later. The 2nd century date of Daniel theory may still have some advocates within very liberal circles, the theory is on the decline even there. Too much external evidence points to the date of Daniel being around the late 6 th century early 5 th exactly the time frame of the Babylonian conquest of Israel. I never read the book you referenced but if the rest is like his thoughts on Daniel I think you wasted you money. EdB |

EdB, As I have told Reformer Joe, I'm really more interested in learning about the image in chapter 2. However, I couldn't sit idly by and let this response go uncontested. (I assume you're referring to chapter 9.) Daniel's 70 weeks is not a messianic prophecy. Notice that in verse 25 "the ruler" is the appositive for "the Anointed One", meaning they are the same person. In verse 26 we see that the people of the ruler (anointed one) will destroy the city. I hope this doesn't refer to Jesus! It seems clear to your humble amigo that the ruler is not the "good guy". That said, feel free to offer a rebuttal if you'd like. However, I probably won't reply, since, as I have already stated, I'm really only interested in discussing chapter 2. Daniel's 70 "sevens" is another debate, another day. ateo By the way, I checked that book out from the library, so no money wasted! :-) However, I should say that it's an excellent read, and you should give it a try. |

Ateo Daniel 9:25-27 is talking about two different men. Read it again and pay attention to the capitalization for hints. In verse 25 it is talking of Jesus the Messiah which will come in 62 weeks after the rebuilding of the temple. King Artaxerxes gave the command to rebuild the temple in the spring of 445BC. It took 7 weeks of years to rebuild then it says after 62 weeks of years the Messiah will be cut off. So we have 7x7 plus 62x7 equals 434 years. Now adjust for the Jewish calendar of 360 days in a year and we will end up in the Spring of 32AD exactly when Jesus rode into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday Calculations come from Handwriting on the Wall by Dr David Jeremiah In verse 69 it says the Messiah will be cut off and the people of the ‘prince to COME’ will destroy the city and temple. Here it is talking of the Antichrist. Daniel 9:25-27 "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; it will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress. 26"Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined. 27"And he will make a firm covenant with the many for one week, but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering; and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate." I hope this helps clear it up for you. EdB |
