1 | Mat 5:27-28. Adultery. | Prov 5:1 | ZtheBerean | 178319
Yes, Jesus is saying you shouldn't look at ANY woman which would include your wife. Those who are in lusts have the word of God choked out of them and are unfruitful (Mark 4:19); this is why we are called to "put off" our old man which is corrupted because of deceitful lusts (Eph 4:22)this is also known as moritfying the lusts of our flesh so that we would not be cjhildren of disobedience. (Col 3:5-7) The question is are you being taught HOW to put off your lusts? We cannot put on the new man without putting off the old man. (Lk 5:37,Mark 2:22)This is why God has to grant us repentance through a meek and patient instructor so that we could acknowledge the truth in such a way that we are recovered from doing the devil's will in our life and start doing God's will. (2Tim 2:24-26) Blessings in His grace, Ztheberean |

2 | Mat 5:27-28. Adultery. | Prov 5:1 | kalos | 178320
The question is: What does the word lust mean? In the context of the verse, before we can conclude that "any woman" includes one's own wife, we need to define the word lust. Exactly what does lust mean? We need to be specific, because words do have meaning. Grace to you, John |

Hi ebrain, In the NT, "lust" is commonly translated from epithumio, and is, simply, strong desire. It could be the strong desire for anything. Galations 5:17 uses this same word of the conflict between the Spirit and the flesh. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |

Mat 5:28 But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. Hi Mark. What really matters is what did Jesue have in mind when He used the word "Lust", it is clear from Matthew 5:28, above that He ment that state of mind in a man which leads to "Adultery" The question therefore, is not what the Greek word might, or might not mean, but what Jesus intended it to mean. Bless you brother. ebrain. |

Hello ebrain, No, Mark was correct. Go through the NT, and look at how the word is used and what it means. The Lord Jesus used it properly in Matt 5:28 in order to say that a strong desire for a woman was the same as adultery. Steve |
