You call that a defense? It is sad that all men sin and are doomed without the blood of Jesus. I'm not patronizing, but I feel it is an even sadder place that assigns an evil motive to every deed that is done. You suspect every man's motives? If someone brings you a gift, do you assume that he has an impure motive? Sad. That all men are sinful does not mean that everything they do is sinful. That is an unwarranted conclusion you make. - Samantha Hear the Gospel, Believe it, Confess it, Repent and aline with it, Be baptized into it. - Acts 22:16 |

"You call that a defense? It is sad that all men sin and are doomed without the blood of Jesus." It says more than "all men sin." 'as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE. THEIR THROAT IS AN OPEN GRAVE, WITH THEIR TONGUES THEY KEEP DECEIVING, THE POISON OF ASPS IS UNDER THEIR LIPS; WHOSE MOUTH IS FULL OF CURSING AND BITTERNESS; THEIR FEET ARE SWIFT TO SHED BLOOD, DESTRUCTION AND MISERY ARE IN THEIR PATHS, AND THE PATH OF PEACE THEY HAVE NOT KNOWN. THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES." --Romans 3:10-18 How do you get the "basic goodness of humanity" out of that? You wrote: "That all men are sinful does not mean that everything they do is sinful. That is an unwarranted conclusion you make." The Bible teaches: "For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God." --Romans 8:6-8 How can one reconcile hostility toward God with "human goodness"? These verses clearly say that the unregenerate are UNABLE to please God. And sin by definition includes everything that is not pleasing to God. "And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,in which you formerly walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, of the spirit that is now working in the sons of disobedience. Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest." --Ephesians 2:1-3 Non-Christians are basically good children of wrath? "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; Who can understand it?" --Jeremiah 17:9 "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart." --Luke 6:45 "For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh; for the willing is present in me, but the doing of the good is not." --Romans 7:18 If humans are basically good, as you have said, it should be fairly easy to produce Scriptures which testify to that fact. --Joe! |

Hello, Your use of the following shows the weakness of your point: ""For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God." --Romans 8:6-8" This is your evidence that lost man does only evil and every motive is suspect? Then you must be consistent and believe that the regenerated mind set on the things of the spirit only has pure motives. Because man is separated from God because of sin, it does not follow that everything that man does is evil. That is an improper leap. I'll close once again by saying how sad your view of man is. The gifts of men, the kindnesses of men, the sacrifices of men: they are all ultimately evil, in your opinion. - Samantha Hear the Gospel, Believe it, Confess it, Repent and aline with it, Be baptized into it. - Acts 22:16 |

"This is your evidence that lost man does only evil and every motive is suspect?" Actually, I gave at least four Scripture references. Why did you select this one instead of Romans 3? "Then you must be consistent and believe that the regenerated mind set on the things of the spirit only has pure motives." It is not inconsistent to deny this. Those who are in the flesh CANNOT please God. That does not mean that those who are born again ALWAYS please God. The two are not mutually exclusive propositions. I can please God as a Christian, but I frequently do not. "Because man is separated from God because of sin, it does not follow that everything that man does is evil. That is an improper leap." Again, if you have some Scripture that suggests the contrary (regarding the unbeliever), then let's look at it. I think the statement that "THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE" speaks for itself. "I'll close once again by saying how sad your view of man is." Well, I have never said it is a happy view. The question, however, whether it is an accurate (i.e. biblical) view. "The gifts of men, the kindnesses of men, the sacrifices of men: they are all ultimately evil, in your opinion." Anything not done for God's glory is ultimately evil. --Joe! |

Yes Joe! you did quote several verses and I always appreciate Scripture. But those verses don't say what YOU say they say. You want them to say that men are intrinsically, completely evil. So much do you believe this that every motive is not only suspect, but without a doubt evil. And you then use the Romans 8 passages which say that the 'mind set on the flesh is death' proves that every deed and thought is evil. These verses do not show that. "Anything not done for God's glory is ultimately evil." Oh please! You don't really believe this! You can't! Not all actions are intrinsically evil. If a non-Christian picks up a Bible and reads it out of curiosity is not evil. This is ridiculous. I hope that this view is not the predominate view among our religious friends on this forum. - Samantha Hear the Gospel, Believe it, Confess it, Repent and aline with it, Be baptized into it. - Acts 22:16 |
