1 | Plants were created, and then stars? | Gen 1:14 | Parable | 46773
See "The Genesis Question" by Dr. Hugh Ross. Therein, he explains that current scientific understanding is consistent with the Genesis account of the creation of Earth. His argument is based on the premises that the initial conditions of the earth and perspective of the observer must be understood in a way that he supports well in his treatment. To summarize his thesis: 1. the perspective of the Genesis account is that of an observer on Earth, not someone viewing the creation of the entire cosmos from some astronomical location. 2. the initial conditions of the Genesis account are not the first stages of cosmic or even planetary formation, but rather when the opacity of the atmosphere prevents anyone from seeing the stars, and not that light or the stars were created then. I don't necessarily agree with everything Dr. Ross says later in the book, but I find his treatment of Genesis 1 to be quite reasonable. Furthermore, he espouses that ultimately, there will be no conflict with our scientific understanding of creation and what the Bible teaches and we must work to remove the supposed conflict between science and faith, surely an artificial stumbling block, from the paths of those who might otherwise come to faith in Christ. Thanks all for your reply! The questions about Bible don't affect my belief in God. But I want to know about them for those who interest in Christian and don't belive in God. I can't just say to them, "don't suspend, just believe." And for me, there are three possible: Everything in Bible is true as we understand now; Bible is true, but I understand in wrong way; the world's theories or hypothesises are true, and the Bible talks in parable, not accurate. If a theory can give enough evidence or can be logically proved, though is different from what Bible says, I can't deny it. To me, being honest is more important than believing in Bible, because my faith should be based on truth, otherwise it is meaningless. I don't think that God can be proved by a formula, a theory or an experiment. God has kept a space between the truths and what human beings can prove, to test and show our faith. But I think for all different from the Bible, though we can't prove whether it is true or false, we can find that they have insufficiency of their evidence or incompletion of their logic. Parable, Thanks for your recommendation! I will try to find the book. |

Sharon-Rose: This is what YOU say: "If a theory can give enough evidence or can be logically proved, though it is different from what the Bible says, I can't deny it. To me, being honest is more important than believing in the Bible, because my faith should be based on truth, otherwise it is meaningless."........This is what GOD says: All Scripture is God-breathed (2 Tim. 3:16)... God's word is truth (John 17:17)... The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever (Isaiah 40:8)... Men will arise speaking perverse things (Acts 20:30)... The word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword (Heb.4:12)... There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death (Prov.14:12)... It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man (Ps.118:8)... Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding (Prov. 3:5)... So faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Rom.10:17)... See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men, according to the elementary principles of the world, rather than according to Christ (Col.2:8). ...... Do you see any differences between what you say and what God says? Please don't tell me you disagree with what I have said in this post, because I haven't said anything. All I have attempted to do is to place in juxtaposition what you have said and what the Bible says on this matter. Please do compare them carefully. --Hank
