1 | Alleged changes in the NKJV | Ps 4:1 | Country Girl | 124439 | ||
Just another example of the inferiority of the KJV (Yes, I know this is horrors to some of you but it's the truth.) You see, the translators in 1611 didn't want to lose their heads and King James didn't want to be immersed completely but he did want to be a "christian." The translators all knew the original Greek word "baptizo" had one single meaning and that is immersion. Their clever innovation is how we got the word "baptize." It's not a transliteration as it should have been. It was anglicized for King James sake. So you see, translators over the past two thousand years were also human. They too had to deal with the cold, harsh world of their own contemporaries. Remember, kings back then were "divinely apppointed" according to custom. So I would have to side with those folks who cling to the idea that THE original manuscripts actually written by the original authors have either been destroyed or there's no way to know for certain they actually wrote them, i.e. unknown authors. I think you'd have to agree, IF we had any of the original books/scrolls intact, they would have turned into objects of worship and our Lord certainly didn't want that. If you doubt this, just look at the tens of thousands of icons all over the world, especially throughout Mediteranean Europe. That leaves us with the conclusion that ALL the complete manuscripts, books and scrolls from the 2nd century on are merely copies of God's Word and are therefore subject to the ravages of time and the inherent errors of the copying process. Especially difficult in this process is the translating from one language to another, just talk to one of them; it truly is a very difficult job. I also conclude we can confidently say we really do have ALL of God's Word intact and completely saying what God wants to say to His creation. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

Country Girl One aspect you touch on but back off is the copying of the manuscripts. While I believe error can creep in I don't believe anything significant did. The Dead Sea scrolls kind of prove that. They were lost if you will in a time capsule, untouched for 200 years. However when compared to today’s copies we see no real differences between the two. In other words God has in effect maintained the integrity of His Word even if we don’t have the original manuscripts. EdB |

I thought I indicated as much in my statement but you stated it much more succinctly than I did. Yes, very definitely I'm convinced as I stated in a previous post, we can believe whole-heartedly that we have ALL of what God wants us to know for eternity. Thanks for clearing that up and blessings to you. Country Girl |
