2 | Did Jesus go to hell? | 1 Peter | EdB | 80474
Truthfinder Hades in Jew culture was the holding place for dead souls. Jesus in Luke 16:19-31 told the story of the rich man and Lazarus. In that story Jesus' description of where the two men were coincided with the Jewish concept of Hades (Hell). Since Jesus confirmed the Jewish concept of Hades(Hell)for us to understand Hades(Hell) all we need to do is read that account. EdB |

Thank you EdB, Do you understand Jesus' "story" of Luke 16 as literal? If so, why can we not accept it as a parable? My second question might be: what do you understand a dead soul to be? Truthfinder |

4 | Did Jesus go to hell? | 1 Peter | Morant61 | 80478
Greetings Truthfinder! May I add my two cents? :-) There are two reasons not to view the story of Lazarus and the rich man as a parable. 1) First of all, it is not identifed as such. However, every other time Jesus spoke in parables, the text clearly states that He was doing so. 2) Secondly, Lazarus is named. No other parable includes a named individual. Tim: You provide two excellent reasons not to view the story of Lazarus and the rich man as a parable. Unfortunately, well-trained JWs have heard this argument before, but reject it. In their indoctrination, they are trained to have an answer for everything, unaware that their answers don't answer anything. Yet to their credit, the JWs' answers consist of something other than ad hominem attacks. Radioman2 |
