Christians are missing something that they need? They need to understand the Bible from a Messianic Jew’s perspective? If my Messianic Jewish brother were still alive, he would inform you much about his perspective. Like it not being necessary for everyone to be born again, giving John the Baptist as an example. Or, proving how the wedding at Cana was Jesus’, stating that to be a Rabbi – one needed to be married, and as God told the first Adam it wasn’t good for him to be alone, neither would it be good for Jesus – the second Adam. He would use "Scripture" to prove that satan was created as God’s pawn for evil, because God needed something evil to balance off His good. (If you are reading any Jewish material – you already know that idea is prevalent.) He argued in favor of re-incarnation, again pointing at Elijah returning as John the Baptist. Quoting the verse that “promises man three-score and ten years of life”, he could explain that’s the reason some die young. They came back to live another life in someone else’s being. (Another strong Jewish belief.) Does any of your literature explain who Rahab came back as? If not, ask any Rabbi. For years, our family would gather for Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays. The Jewish members always outspend the Christian members. When my brother “accepted Jesus” he thought of himself as being a completed Jew. The Jewish side ridiculed him. The “Christian” side questioned his reasoning. He would come home drunk and preach to me in the wee hours of the morning. This Jesus, he preached, never denied the accusations tossed His way about being a glutton and drunkard. So that proved it was OK. Although my brother is buried in a “Christian” cemetery (that side of the family had an extra site), his kids made sure he only wore his tasseled “undergarment” – otherwise he was stark naked. They also made sure the rocks were placed over the site. The children, like other Messianic Jews, KNEW his spirit hovered over their home, until they would release it to “be born again in some infant, so he could get his “three-score and ten”. Oh, he celebrated the feasts and, wearing his skull cap and prayer shawl, faced Jerusalem when he prayed. They lit the candles, and ate Kosher foods only. Please read the New Testament carefully – it will save you from making the same mistakes too many others make. Paul meant what he wrote about becoming tangled up again in the yoke of bondage. Fred, you are more than welcome! I would be glad to discuss with you about your perplexity you have with the so-called Christian Church. In my many travels, I have run across such. And, I have been in people-oriented-Christ-Centered churchs too. My biggest problem with this "forum" is I am not able to spend as much time on it as I would like. Often it is a hit and run type of event. Too many "burners" going - keep me going. So, beware - if you ask me a question and days go by without a response, it's basically because I haven't "see your question". Fred, may I offer a suggestion? Find a quiet spot with no background noises, or possible interruptions sit down and read through the epistles. Read them one at a time - each one in at one sitting. In other words, don't allow the train of thought to be lost. Each one was written as a letter and, like any love letter, you wouldn't want to read a sentence here, a word there. Faith come through hearing, and hearing by the word of God - so REALLY listen to your words. Blessings, Taleb |

5 | God's love | Hebrews | Mark108 | 102500 | ||
I feel that I am supposed to answer your question because I was preaching on this topic yesterday. Love is not something that we can create. It is a gift from God so we can't keep the commandment unless God enables us to do so. We need to admit that our righteousness is as filthy rags, that we are incapable of sincerely loving God unless he enables us and that we deserve the death penalty for our sins. This is not popular these days and no self-righteous person can ever keep this commandment. Somewhere Paul says: "What do you you have that you were not given and if you were given it why do you boast about it as if you were not?" (my own rough paraphrase). We can't create love but we can choose to nurture or neglect the love that God has given us. Five things that I asked of my congregation yesterday were: to love God's people and meet with them regularly to love God's word (the bible) and read it often and eagerly to love God's work and to serve him whereever and whenever you can to love to spend time with God in prayer and to love to spend time with God in worship. From what you say you need to start with the first one. I know that so many Christians are not easy to love but get used to it - you are going to spend eternity with them! Again it is Paul who says: "Who are we to criticise another man's servant? It is to God that he stands or Falls and Stand he will because God is able to make him stand." (again my poor paraphrase) As you love the unlovely christians that God brings accross your path and as you realise that from God's perspective you are just as unlovely (there is no difference in God's sight) you start to see how much God has given you and that will help you to love the God who loves unlovely people like us. God Bless, Mark. |
