2 | when do I spake in tounges | Acts | The Berean | 48972 | ||
Tongues was not spoken every place in the bible when folks were baptized in the spirit. What about the Ethiopian Eunuch? Acts 8:26-40, What about the conversion of Lydia? Acts 16:11-15. There is the proof that tongues was NOT manifested after baptizing in the Holy Spirit. As Grace and Truth said, as you also...study your bible. mj |

Greetings The Berean! Thank you for that information. It's too bad more folks aren't paying attention to what God's Word has to say. Perhaps we all fall into the trap of looking to God's Word to support only our own experience. I believe God's Word is BIG ENOUGH for us all to find refuge in - but we must diligently seek to find the shelter HE has provided rather than constructing fallout shelters on our own. I believe that the tongues of the early church served two purposes - communication of the Gospel and edification of the church. When non-believers heard the Gospel presented in their own language by people who were foreign to them, it must certainly have had an impact that something BIG was at work here! However, as for the edification of the church, whoever spoke in a tongue, the interpretation HAD to be given as well. For me, it is a bit disconcerting when I audibly hear others praying in tongues; I guess I am frustrated because I have no idea what they are saying. How can I join in with them in intercession before the Lord if I don't know what is on their heart? Perhaps, because this practice is not observed as mandated by Scripture in public settings, some of us have been "turned off" to what God would like to give to His body. (1 Cor 14:26-28) I personally hesitate to be too quick to pass judgment on the practice(s) of other believers unless it is contrary to God's Word. Order is the "order!" But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner. 1 Cor 14:40 Blessings to you! Mommapbs |
