Janae I too take the Bible very literally, probably more so than even you. However I also make sure my exegesis of the scripture conforms to the whole of scripture. If there were even a remotest hint that God would have to forsake Jesus I would agree with you. If there was any example of where God deserted anyone one that called upon him no matter their state I would agree with you. If there were any foundation to the belief that God can not look upon sin I would agree with you. If Satan did not have access to accuse the saints, or if Satan did not stand before God and answer God's questions I would agree with you. But to apply this verse in a way that stands contrary to the whole of scripture is a problem for me. When we view a Bible verse we are to take it a face value, as long as that rendering aligns with the rest of scripture. However if face value is contrary to the whole of scripture then we need to investigate deeper. Upon investigation we see no example where God can not look upon sin, that God has to leave the presence of someone in sin or that God deserts us when we are found in sin. If your interpretation of this event is correct then we would have to conclude either the Holy Spirit is not as Holy as God and therefore can stand in the presence of sin or that He has to flee every time we commit a sin. Then the question becomes who convicts a child of God of sin if it is not the Holy Spirit? We would also have to conclude that Jesus was not fully God and fully man but rather was either. Fully God only when He was representing God and fully man only when He was experiencing humanity. Again this contradicts scripture. Your right Jesus was fulfilling prophecy when he quoted Psalm 22 but He did it as God as Man bearing the sins of the world. EdB |

Hello EdB. God bless you brother. Once again you make a solid point. I too take Gods Word quite literally and we must. One thing that has helped me considerably in my study of the Bible has been understanding that God has incorperated numerous figures of speech, synonims ,and other things to paint pictures of himself and the principles he sets forth in the Bible. That along with things you have brought up in previous postings. In the case of a verse that may be unclear it gets explained in the verse,in the context,or it's been used elsewhere in scripure. Those points which you mentioned yourself on more than one occassion. When we apply these principles to our study of Gods Word along with lots of prayer it takes the guess work out of everything. That is why I see 2 Timothy 2:15 as a lynch pin to our study of Gods Word and the kind of relationship he wants to have with us.I think that if we as sons and daughters of God apply these principles consistantly that we will find ourselves much more unified and not so much at loggerheads with each other. God wants us unified and like minded where his Word is concerned. Thanx my brother, lionheart |

lionheart Well said! Unfortunately many refuse to do this and thus become the loggerheads of discussions. It seems human nature causes each of us at one time or another to fixate on a point, principal, teaching, prejudice or bias that we have acquired and blinds us to all other points of view. We become very dogmatic and unmoving refusing to even consider another point of view. In effect our minds are closed on that subject. We all have been guilty of this and it has lead to some interesting threads on this forum. As a way to counteract this trait of human nature Im trying to force myself to consider all opinions when I find a subject I normally take a dogmatic stance on. It is a very hard thing to open a mind that is closed. EdB |

EdB,thanx brother I absolutely agree with you on this one. I,m not without fault myself. But I'm learnig more every day how destructive personal bias and opinion can be to our study of Gods Word and our walk with him.Thats why I have to make the extra effort to gaurd my heart.I know how opoinionated I can be. When I get that way I lose and so does anyone I'm trying to reach. Jesus says in Mtt12:25 Any kingdom divided against itself is laid waste and any city or house divided against itself shall not stand. I remember the pastor of the church I grew up in would pray for God to take his flesh out of the equation before he would bring the message. Think God might be trying to tell us something in Mtt 12:25. Personal bias and opinion have no place in the study of Gods Word. 1 Pt 1:20,21. Gods Word Speaks for itself. If we go into things with this attitude of heart we will find the answers we're looking for and more than likely they will be the right ones. If we apply these principles to our daily study and walk with God. I highly recomend That we take a good look at Romans 14. Paul does an outstanding job of explaining what to do with disputable matters, ie. Opinions personal bias ect. Guys we can be unified,we really can. Thanx for your input brother. your brother in Christ, lionheart |

Passing Judgment on Disputable Matters.. ...(see Romans 14:1). Lionheart: If we take a good look at Romans 14, we will plainly see examples of what kinds of things are considered disuputable matters. Whether to regard one day as special and whether to eat meat or not to eat it -- these are examples of disputable matters. However the Bible doctrines of God, Christ, man, salvation, etc. -- these are NOT disputable matters. Grace to you, Kalos |

Exactly brother, and that is why we gotta let Gods Word speak for itself because it does and will every time. I know I'm sounding like a broken record here, with human nature being what it is though we can take the clearest of Bible doctrines and make disputable matters out of them. God wants us all on the same page. God would not call us do anything that he wont enable us to do. Thanx much. Your Brother in Christ, lionheart |
