1 | Who else besides Cain, Adam, and Eve? | Genesis | popdzl | 16209
Yes there were other people. Adam was created before the end of the third day,Gen 2:5-7, however he did not live on the earth he lived in Eden. Gen 1:26-31 shows that the rest of mankind was created on the sixth day and inhabited the earth.

popdzl, I must not let this oppourtunity to find commom ground with Reformer Joe pass. His comment was right on the mark not only scriptually but scientifically even if he did not include that. Theologically the concept of all falling through Adam (Romans 5:12) falls apart if we have more than one set of progentitors, that is Adam and Eve. And genetic science has even come to the conclusion that we are all decended from one woman, which confirms Genesis 3:20 Emmaus |

Glad I could give you the opportunity, Emmaus! :) By the way, I hold to the Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, the Athanasian Creed, and the Chalcedionian Definition as well. Just thought I would try to forge a little more "common ground." --Joe! |

I believe that Genesis 1 explains our spiritual relationship to God as his image and likeness that God said this was(and I believe still is) GOOD. The begining of our eternal life. As well as I believe Genesis 2, to be our material, fleshly exsistance, that our one God and Creator entered what he created, and then disappered in the atheism of matter. Adam, represented in the Scriptures as formed from dust, is an object-lesson for the human mind. The material senses. Adam, originate in matter and return to dust,--are proved non-intelligent. They go out as they came in, for they are still the error, not the truth of being. When it is learned that the spiritual sense, and not the material, conveys the impressions of Mind to man, then being will be understood and found to be harmonious The serpent represents the act of commending to our first parents the knowledge of good and evil, a knowledge gained from matter, or evil, instead of from Spirit. The portrayal is still graphicaly accurate, for the common conception of mortal man - a burlesque of God's man - is the outgrowth of human knowledge or sensuality, a mere offshoot of material sense. Uncover the error, and it turns the lie upon you. Until the fact concerning error - namely, its nothingness. Jesus demonstrated the power of the Spirit and said "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also," and who also said, "But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true whorshippers shall worship the Father is spirit and in truth" Most of this explaination comes from clips of Science and Health with key to the Scriptures. |

I didn't ask a question. You may think that Science and Health is a help for you, but it is the primary Scripture of a non-Christian cult known as Christian Science. The cult was founded by Mary Baker Eddy in the 19th century, and it is basically the re-hashing of a heresy known as gnosticism that plagued the early church. Rather that helping one understand the Scriptures, Eddy assigned esoteric, "hidden" meaning to the texts. As you have been pointing out, the plain meaning of the text is obscured by Eddy's commentary saying everything literal in Scripture "represents" something else. According to Christian Scientists, it is impossible to understand the "true meaning of the Bible" apart from this book (hence its claim to be the "key to the Scriptures"). Science and Health denies the reality of evil; Jesus Christ and the Bible do not. Sin is rebellion against a holy and just God, not "error." Our nature is that we are enemies of God and predisposed to violating His will (Romans 5; Ephesians 2:1-7); we are not victims of "wrong thinking" as Eddy asserted. I encourage you to check out the following Web sites for a Biblical response to Science and Health to see how it leads a person away from the truth of the Bible: http://www.watchman.org/profile/ChrSciProfile.htm http://www.equip.org/free/DC605.htm May God bless you by enlightening you with His truth. --Joe! |

Hi Joe, Excuse me, I thought your post was a question. Please forgive me for using the improper word!!!! Thank you so much for your concern!! I truly do appreciate people looking out for each other. The information that you have posted is evidentially not from your own personnel knowledge of the actual teachings, because a lot of this just simply is not true. The King James Version of the Bible is what we study with the Science and Health, as let’s say our commentary. Our Daily Bible studies along with the book at www.spirituality.com Science and Health is very much Christian! I had no intention of turning this into a Mary Baker Eddy discussion, but to keep this brief and to the point I will. Mrs. Eddy had been raised in a Christian Church; She was a very sick child. One day she was healed and she wanted to know why she was healed so she spent 3 years studying the Bible mainly the teachings of Jesus to learn that Jesus’ teachings were scientific or lets say provable. Joe I understand the confusion of this study as I once had similar thoughts. But knowing that I had never been around such kind, loving, non-judgmental people anywhere as well as and even more so, the healings that I have witnessed over and over again are something that I just cannot nor will not ignore. Please understand that I’m not at all saying that this study is right for everyone, that's God's job, but for myself I have seen such marvelous healings, this is the proof of the teaching. Joe, why do people when they find something unlike their own thinking do they assume that it’s wrong or bad regardless of the Truth or the good achieved. Oh well the Pharisees did the exact same thing to Jesus. Oh, you know I never felt like a victim at all. But I sure am glad that I have the proof in the healing so I can just smile! Keep up your reforming with God’s love Joe. |

Greetings Coverless Veil! I have to join with Joe in denouncing Christian Science as a cult. It's teaching are simply not true, and are not in accordance with the teachings of Scripture. To summarize from Walter Martin's, "Kingdom of the Cults", Christian Science denies the following Christian doctrines: 1) The inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. 2) The Triune nature of God. 3) The incarnation of Christ. 4) The efficacy of the blood of Christ to atone for sins. 5) The death and resurrection of Christ. 6) The ascension and second coming of Christ. 7) The existance of Satan. 8) The existance of Hell. 9) The reality of Heaven. 10) The power of prayer. 11) The existence of Sin, sickness, and death. Now, if you would like, we could go through point by point and compare what Christian Science teaches with what the Bible teaches. What we will find is that they are not the same. Mary Baker Eddy simply promoted a new form of gnoticism, and she even plagarized someone else at that. The measure of truth is the Bible, not how we feel or what we claim to have seen. Thus, I would encourage you to examine everything in light of God's Word as the only source of truth. If you do, you will find that Christian Science is a lie! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

We only have a limited amount of time here Tim, I chose to spend my time in an attempt to be constructive not destructive. I hope that you will choose the same one-day. Oh, Jesus taught that we are to agree with our adversary’s quickly! OK. God’s love to you! |

Greeting Coverless Veil! In all honesty, I would think that examining our beliefs in the light of Scripture would be constructive spiritually, though it would definitely be destructive to a cult's false claims! Let's look at one such example. I went to the web site you mentioned in an earlier post. Here is what it said about the death of Christ: "One sacrifice, however great, is insufficient to pay the debt of sin. The atonement requires constant self-immolation on the sinner's part. That God's wrath should be vented upon His beloved Son, is divinely unnatural. Such a theory is man-made. The atonement is a hard problem in theology, but its scientific explanation is, that suffering is an error of sinful sense which Truth destroys, and that eventually both sin and suffering will fall at the feet of everlasting Love." So, according to Christian Science, Christ's death cannot atone for our sins. However, Scripture says: 1) Heb. 9:26 "Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him." 2) 1 Peter 3:18 - "For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive by the Spirit," 3) Heb. 10:10 - "And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." We could go on, but all of these verses clearly say that Christ's sacrifice atoned for our sins. They don't say Christ's sacrifice plus something else. In fact, the very words used indicate that His death appeased God's wrath against sin - all of which Mary Baker Eddy denies. Which will you believe - the Bible or Mary Baker Eddy? Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
