161 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | 2 Tim 2:15 | EdB | 243627
Greeting and Blessings to you Justme I don't know if this falling away is a strong indicator or not. While it is almost unimaginable for us as Christians to witness, man’s relationship with God has been worst. If we go back to the time of Jesus and look at the Jews and their relationship with God we see they really did not hold God as a deity to be worshipped but rather worshipped the law the Pharisees laid out for them if they worshipped at all. Then only a few years later many had converted to almost paganism seeking fulfillment in Gladiator fights and slaughter of Christians. While many hold Abortion is just another form of paganism (tossing children to lions versus torn apart at the hands of a doctor) it has been going on for over 30 years now. I believe these are indicators I don’t think they enable us to commit to a time range. We must be constantly ready and always listening for the trumpet blast and command to come up here! |

162 | SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH | 2 Tim 2:15 | EdB | 243624
How do they come to this conclusion? Not sure, but I think it is because the have allowed their perception of education to make them fools. As scripture says a fool says there is no God. There is a strong move toward the concept that religion is for the slow of mind, that an enlightened individuals understands the concept of religion was conceived in an attempt to establish a social order and moral structure for the less knowing. Most are atheist or at the very lest agnostic, so the denial of the second coming of Christ is a non issue with them. There is a very strong move in Education in America to remove God from our society. This starts in grade schools and progresses though out the education process. We should not be surprised of the results. The look at the cost of colleges and seminaries they have to do something to keep the classrooms full so they market Ministry as a great career that offers many benefits that appeal to young students. These students upon graduation find Ministry perhaps a little different than they expected eventually find themselves for one reason or another moving into education themselves. So the cycle continues. I had one professor tell me that while he was talking of Abraham and the great Patriarchs of the faith, at the beginning of the first semester class, noticed one student with tears in her eyes. After class when asked about it was told she had no idea who those people were and being totally lost began to cry. He then surveyed the class and found only a small handful of the students viewed themselves as true believers. This was a well known and respected Bible college where you would expect only Christians to attend yet in truth a huge majority were not believers and were only looking to meet the requirements of future job offerings. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 (NKJV) 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, Look at the great Colleges all started as Bible Schools, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and etc. Almost all colleges at headed by people that aspire to be like these schools. |

163 | Teaching and Being Taught | Deut 32:2 | EdB | 243621
Yet Jesus charged His disciples which He taught to make more disciples. Metaphysics is seen in the teaching of psychobabble that attached itself to so many seeker churches. Thanks but not thanks I will stick with the teaching of the greatest teacher Jesus! |

164 | Education encouraged of God? | 2 Tim 2:15 | EdB | 243617
For the most part I agree that in the past a few ole fire and brimstone preachers talked down education. However the present state of many Bible Colleges and Seminaries are tragedy. One Bible College I fairly familiar with was started to prepare those called into the ministry, today it touts ministry as a career with many benefits. In this same school a Godly man of God came to teach. He started a discipleship program that required students that wanted to be involved to attend chapel at 5 in the morning. The other professors in the college went nuts. As this discipleship program picked up speed and more and more committed young men and women started to get involved these professors started all kinds of things to discourage the program. They finally got their way and the professor was forced to leave the school. Today the school is so secular that some professors openly deny a second coming Christ. Students know all the quotes of the most quoted men but most aren't sure who Abraham was. While I never taught in this seminary I saw similar things happening in the schools I taught in. The change of attitude was very evident. On any Sunday there were more students having picnics on campus than there were in chapel. Professors used words that would embarrass most sailors. It was sort of like what we see on the political scene today where one party says anyone in the opposing party is unthinking or ignorant. That was the prevailing attitude of anyone that read the Bible instead of the local scandal sheet. If you could quote full books of the Bible but could not quote the religious hero of theirs you were unlearned and hopeless. |

165 | Education encouraged of God? | 2 Tim 2:15 | EdB | 243613
Does God discourage education? No! This passage teaches us to seek education to handle and teach the word of truth. The problem come in when we stop using the standards set is scripture and start following men that used religion to their profit. Some used it to accomplish their goals, some used it to rebell against the wishes of their parents, some used it to gain political position and some used it for filthy lucre. Often in history the men that did the work of Christ are shoved into the background. Most have never heard their names, nor were they ever quoted yet in heaven they are on the honor rolls. Faithful servants of the Lord live and die is anonymity, yet those that when the truth be know lived an ungodly life are often quoted as men of significance. I personally respect and seek education what I object to is men that used religion for personal gain be held up as great intellectuals. I believe that is God position also. |

166 | No Such Thing as an Historic Arminian | Gal 4:25 | EdB | 243612
I see this as a description of the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Man does not see his sinful state unless convicted of it by the Holy Spirit. Man can not know there is a way out of the sinful state unless he is shown the way by the Holy Spirit. We also know many deny the ministry of the Holy Spirit and reject their salvation. God have mercy on those that deny the Holy Spirit's ministry today. |

167 | Scripture not man! | Acts 17:11 | EdB | 243611
Notice they searched scripture! Not the teaching of man, not the doctrine of man, not the creeds of man, not the council of man, not the theology of man, nor the philosophy of man. They searched for the truth in the only place truth existed, in scripture. Thus they were declared Nobel in scripture!
168 | No Understanding No Power of God | Matt 22:29 | EdB | 243610
The council of orange dealt with THE COUNCIL OF ORANGE (529) The Council of Orange was an outgrowth of the controversy between Augustine and Pelagius. This controversy had to do with degree to which a human being is responsible for his or her own salvation, and the role of the grace of God in bringing about salvation. The Pelagians held that human beings are born in a state of innocence, i.e., that there is no such thing as a sinful nature or original sin. As a result of this view, they held that a state of sinless perfection was achievable in this life. The Council of Orange dealt with the Semi-Pelagian doctrine that the human race, though fallen and possessed of a sinful nature, is still "good" enough to able to lay hold of the grace of God through an act of unredeemed human will. Not with the statement you quoted. With the exception of his comments about scripture Pelagius' quote was exactly what Christ was trying to show the Pharisees. They had man made laws, man made doctrines, man made rituals none of which brought them closer to God. It was a problem if the heart which is exactly I see in the reformed theology. |

169 | Is the Reformation Over? | 2 Cor 11:28 | EdB | 243609
I agree a reformation of the church is a great need. My prayer is it is not like the last division of the church which many trumpet as a reformation. Yes there are places that are producing preachers but what is needed is men that will answer the call of God. Nothing man can produce, teach or train can replace a the teaching of the Holy Spirit in a man called to be God's servant to stand in the pulpit. The problem today too many enter the ministry as a career instead of a calling. When a person answers the calling of God to the pulpit, if he does not forsake that which called him he will preach not with eloquence of speech or technique but will preach life that leads to Christ. Praise God there are still some who seek for the leading of the Holy Spirit not relying on methodology or instruction of men. |

170 | The Lens the World Uses | Amos 5:10 | EdB | 243604
Once again there is a misuse of the word reformed. The Reformation did not reform anything. It divided the body of Christ. Never lose sight of that fact. Now some may say it was the intention to reform the church but in fact the real intention was man’s decision during this period often called the “enlightenment†to empower man to be his own head of the his own church. Christ was never consulted in the process, had He been the prayer of unity would have forced a different outcome. The Reformation was also fueled by the passion of political freedom, the political powers that be in many cases wanted to free of any oversight by Rome. The wanted to make their own rules on marriage and divorce, on war, on taxation and most of all they wanted the money that was going to Rome to remain with them. Were all Reformers atheist? No but there were atheist that had the ears of the Reformers, along with false teachers and false ministers of the Word. These men were out for personal gain and many found it in the Reformation. Almost all gained power they never would have gotten by any other means. And much to the surprise of some Reformers it cost them their lives. |

171 | A work of God's Free Grace | John 17:17 | EdB | 243603
I listened to the podcast and found it interesting. In the beginning 15 minutes or so they spent a lot of time defining justification but no time on defining “beliefâ€. In there is where our differences lie. At the 16 minute until the last 5 or 6 minutes I agree with what they said ( I will re listen to make sure of this). In fact they talked as no Calvinist I ever heard ever has. But then they slipped in the agenda at about the 5-6 minute to the end with their take on Noah. Again the differences are not Justification, Grace or works the differences are our understanding of the word “believeâ€. To me that is a verb, an action word, a word that in and of itself is work. It requires a conscious decision of the part of the believer to believe. If we remove the conscious decision then we remove any responsibility of man in both sin and salvation. We either make a decision or the decision is made for us. If is made for us then our responsibility ends. If we are charged with the making the decision which clearly John 3:16 says we are then it is man that effects receiving or rejecting the salvation freely given. That is the work of James, along with the what the podcast discussed at minutes 16 through to the last 5 or 6 minutes. |

172 | A work of God's Free Grace | John 17:17 | EdB | 243601
It is not that I don't care for educated people or what they say, think or do. I don't care for people that deny the Holy Spirit and try to use their education in an attempt to fill that void in their lives. I think I understand clearly what James is saying. He is saying faith causes works, without works there is no faith only lip service. Too many believe all they have to do to be saved is to declare their belief in Christ. That they don't have to live that belief just say they have it. That is why there is so little commitment in the church to the church and Christianity today. As MacArthur calls it easy believism. I can be saved by grace and never lift a finger to save a sinner and I'm assured of my salvation. That is what I am against. |

173 | Holy Spirit is needed for holiness | Matt 12:31 | EdB | 243600
Because the church has lost Holy Ghost fire, men go to hell fire! We need a vision of a holy God. God is essentially Holy. The Cherubim and Seraphim were not crying, “Omnipotent! Omnipotent is the Lord!†nor “Omnipresent! Omniscient! is the Lord!†but “Holy! Holy! Holy†This vast Hebrew concept needs to penetrate our souls. 175 | the need for prayer | 1 Thess 5:17 | EdB | 243596
The Cinderella of the church of today is prayer. This handmaid of the Lord is unloved and unwooed because she is not dripping with the pearls of intellectualism, nor glamorous with the silks of philosophy; neither is she enchanting with the tiara of psychology. She wears the homespuns of sincerity and humility and so is not afraid to kneel. No man is greater than his prayer life. The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying. The pulpit can be the shop window to display one’s talents; the prayer closet allows no showing off. Leonard Ravenhill When God intends great mercy for hispeople, the first thing He does is set them a-praying Matthew Henry The call of the Cross, therefore, isto enter into this passion of Christ. We must have upon us the print of the nails. Gordon Watt |

176 | Preach the Gospel not an agenda | Matt 10:16 | EdB | 243595
If we look at today’s England we see the truth of this passage. London had some of the greatest orators ever to stand in pulpit but their legacy is one where the church is in decline. One man in particular is often quoted from his famous sermons but he denied the power of the Holy Spirit and while he preached to thousands his words returned void if we look at the condition of the church in London today. When men deny God, try to place limits on God or dogmatically define God error abounds and as such their words return void. While many may cling to them as man often does with deception, the truth spoken not to amaze man but to equip man changes lives. Man must preach under the unction of the Holy Spirit and if they deny the power of the Holy Spirit they do not have such unction, not matter how eloquently they preach. Only crucified preaching can give life, crucified preaching can only come from a crucified man. When man enjoys the “pleasures†of this world he has not crucified his flesh and therefore can not preach a crucified message. |

177 | God desires all to be saved | 1 Tim 2:4 | EdB | 243594
God Desires All Men to Be Saved. 1 Timothy 2:4 - God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [Note: This is the same "all men" for whom we should pray - v1.] 2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Think about this! If God sincerely wants all people to be saved and wants none to perish, and if the decision is entirely up to Him (man has no choice), then all people will be saved and none will be lost! The logical conclusion of unconditional election must be universalism! Yet we know only a few will be saved and most lost (Matt. 7:13,14) [22:14]. Hence, either God does not sincerely want everyone saved, or else man does have a choice! God's Grace Is Extended to All Men. Because God wants all to be saved, He has shown all men mercy and favor by offering them salvation. Titus 2:11 - For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. Note that what God's grace brings to all is "salvation." Jesus Died to Offer Salvation to All Men. 1 Timothy 2:6 - Jesus gave Himself a ransom for all (the same "all" that God wants to be saved - v4). Hebrews 2:9 - By the grace of God Jesus tasted death for everyone. This "everyone" refers to those who are subject to the fear of death (v15), which is every human. John 3:16 - God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Note that the ones Jesus died to save are all those in the world whom God loves. Yet He loves even His enemies (Matt. 5:43-38). Romans 5:18,19 - Justification came unto "all men" by Jesus' righteous act (His death). This was the same "all men" on whom condemnation came as a result of Adam's sin. So, however many people are condemned by sin, that is how many can receive the benefit of Jesus' death. Think about this also The intent of Jesus' death was to offer salvation to all men. If these passages are true, then either all men will be saved (which cannot be), or else there is something each man must do to determine whether or not he will receive the benefit of Jesus' death. |

178 | Follow scripture or man | Acts 17:29 | EdB | 243593
Acts 17:29 (NKJV) 29 Therefore, since we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Divine Nature is like gold or silver or stone, something shaped by art and man's devising. Too many want to shape God to their own liking, if we then reject their teaching we are called fools, unlearned, un-trainable. Scripture contains the truth of God, it gives us any revelation we have of God. When we go beyond scripture and assign to God any trait or characteristic that isn’t specifically spelled out in scripture we have shape God in man’s wisdom. Something we are told not to do. |

179 | Careful who you listen to. | Judg 21:25 | EdB | 243592
Since the Reformation this has been the Modus Operandi of the church. Men have decided what is true and then created a creed/doctrine that attests to it. This creed/doctrine is then repeated over and over until it becomes more than a creed/doctrine of man but becomes truth. For the most part this is good as in the case of the Apostles Creed. However there have been creeds/doctrines that contain falsehoods that make God out to being nothing more than a puppet master. And that is where the problem arises. Any creed, any doctrine that describes God differently than all of scripture describes Him is false. Any creed, any doctrine that suggests salvation is withheld from all men stands in conflict with scripture that says Christ died for the world. 1 Timothy 2:4 - God desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. [Note: This is the same "all men" for whom we should pray - v1.] 2 Peter 3:9 - The Lord is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. The problem is not with quoting as such the problem is quoting that which is counter to the truth of scripture. |

180 | Preach the Gospel not an agenda | Matt 10:16 | EdB | 243589
1 Corinthians 1:17 (KJV) 17 For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect. Today many us wisdom of words instead of the truth of the Cross in sermons, preaching, teaching, and even in forums. Man is easily impressed but also easily intimidated by people that use wisdom of words. We are warned there are wolves around us that would suck the truth of scripture out of us. Often these wolves are have no intention of being wolves but have been deceived themselves by careful use of the wisdom of words of others. Often people with flowing terms about the greatness of a man, a teaching, of a philosophy but they completely ignore the initial cost of such fame, of the teaching, of the philosophy. That cost is simply dismissed as not their problem. Even though it violated the very things our savior prayed for. Wisdom of words should never be promoted preaching the Gospel the Cross of Jesus is what is important |
