Subject: Education encouraged of God? |
Bible Note: For the most part I agree that in the past a few ole fire and brimstone preachers talked down education. However the present state of many Bible Colleges and Seminaries are tragedy. One Bible College I fairly familiar with was started to prepare those called into the ministry, today it touts ministry as a career with many benefits. In this same school a Godly man of God came to teach. He started a discipleship program that required students that wanted to be involved to attend chapel at 5 in the morning. The other professors in the college went nuts. As this discipleship program picked up speed and more and more committed young men and women started to get involved these professors started all kinds of things to discourage the program. They finally got their way and the professor was forced to leave the school. Today the school is so secular that some professors openly deny a second coming Christ. Students know all the quotes of the most quoted men but most aren't sure who Abraham was. While I never taught in this seminary I saw similar things happening in the schools I taught in. The change of attitude was very evident. On any Sunday there were more students having picnics on campus than there were in chapel. Professors used words that would embarrass most sailors. It was sort of like what we see on the political scene today where one party says anyone in the opposing party is unthinking or ignorant. That was the prevailing attitude of anyone that read the Bible instead of the local scandal sheet. If you could quote full books of the Bible but could not quote the religious hero of theirs you were unlearned and hopeless. |
