Bible Note: Once again there is a misuse of the word reformed. The Reformation did not reform anything. It divided the body of Christ. Never lose sight of that fact. Now some may say it was the intention to reform the church but in fact the real intention was man’s decision during this period often called the “enlightenment†to empower man to be his own head of the his own church. Christ was never consulted in the process, had He been the prayer of unity would have forced a different outcome. The Reformation was also fueled by the passion of political freedom, the political powers that be in many cases wanted to free of any oversight by Rome. The wanted to make their own rules on marriage and divorce, on war, on taxation and most of all they wanted the money that was going to Rome to remain with them. Were all Reformers atheist? No but there were atheist that had the ears of the Reformers, along with false teachers and false ministers of the Word. These men were out for personal gain and many found it in the Reformation. Almost all gained power they never would have gotten by any other means. And much to the surprise of some Reformers it cost them their lives. |
