1 | What of Baptism? | Bible general Archive 2 | ominous | 153588
baptism was at first, an outward showing of faith and was symbolic of being made clean through faith. but after the resurrection jesus said in acts 1:5 that we would be baptized by the spirit. to me baptism is a ritual, and some who partake in ritual, think the ritual itself gives them more virtue than another. same as the jews thinking the law gave them more virtue than the gentiles.

i did not say that the bible called baptism a ritual. i called it a ritual. it was just a right of passage an outward showing of faith.i am redeemed by christ, as there are many who, being baptised turn back. as for scripture well let's see; theres matt 3:11, mark 1:8, luke 3:16, john 1:33 all say about the same thing, then theres 1cor 1:17, hebrews 5:12-14 which end the thought in 6:1-2 and in the old testament theres jer 2:22 nitre by the way is a hard soap and if you're one of those who dont read the old testament read matt 13:52 in hebrews 6 when paul says leaving the principles of the doctrine of christ, he is reffering to the basics, and saying we or the church should be growing in understanding and not stuck in an infantile mentality.

Is it just a right of passage? Lets see what we have here. 1. Matt 3:11,Mk 1:8, Lk 3:16,Jn 1:33. All these verses speak of Johns baptism and refer to what would come on Penticost. 2. 1 Cor 1:17 This is what God has called each and everyone of us to do. Matt 28:18-20. I will agree with you on this, one must grow beyond the basics, but if one is to do so one better be solidly grounded in the basics. There is nothing infantile about baptism, Baptism is one of basic tennets of the faith. The big question I have is why when baptism is mentioned some people get the idea we are taking the focus or priority off Jesus Christ? Quite the contrary,It puts the focus right where it rightly belongs,on Jesus Christ and what he did and accomplished for us. What do we do with Mk 16:16, Acts 2:38,Romans 6:3-11 1 Pt 3:21? It all fits together. In Christ, lionheart |

Greetings Lionheart, This might be a different slant on what John meant when he said, Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire: It’s possible that John the Baptist didn’t have a clue about what would happen on the day of Pentecost, yet he knew that Jesus would baptize (everyone) that was standing there that day. There were many in the crowed that day that would never believe in Christ and receive the baptism of the Spirit and be sealed. Ephes. 1:13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Those that didn’t believe in Christ, that were stand before John that day, would receive a baptism of fire. Rev. 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. The baptism that John spoke of in Matt 3:11 could be the one baptism that would unify all believers thus we have, Ephes. 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, Have a great day, CDBJ |
