1 | Is salvation by faith only scriptural? | James 2:14 | John Reformed | 54591
Dear Aspiring Faith is a gift. Eph 2:8 "For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;" Saving Faith will be accompanied by good works. Eph 2:10 "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." We are saved through faith alone and our good works are an assurance of the authenticity of that faith. John |

2 | Is salvation by faith only scriptural? | James 2:14 | Grace and Truth | 54600
Faith alone, is not, and never has been a bible concept. Let's take a look a the book of Heb.11:8 and compare it with Romans 4, here in romans 4 Paul was asking the question about what Abraham our father had found? Abraham was called out of Ur to go into a land that God would show him and he went not knowing where he was going, (That's Faith), he packed up his belonging and went! (action). I disguss this with others on this forum, and they insisted that it was (faith alone), what needs to be understood is when God tell us to do something, we must do it no matter what it is. God through his Son Jesus Christ left us word from the apostles, who preached on the day of Pentecost, and said "Repent and be baptized EVERY ONE OF YOU in the Name Of Jesus Christ",(Acts 4:12 is where SALVATION IS) (Acts 2:38). (Action) is to follow one's faith, Acts 2:41 Then they that GLADLY RECEIVED HIS WORDS WERE BAPTIZED: AND THE SAME DAY THERE WERE ADDED UNTO THEM ABOUT THREE THOUSND SOULS. (ACTION) (ACTION) (ACTION) This happens when one gladly receive God's word! (Gladly). |

3 | Is salvation by faith only scriptural? | James 2:14 | Reformer Joe | 54623
What does Romans 4:5 tell us? That was Paul's whole point in this section of Romans, and the point you deny to your peril. Your righteous deeds getting you to heaven? Please! "For all of us have become like one who is unclean, And all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; And all of us wither like a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, take us away." --Isaiah 64:6 That's you Isaiah is talking about! Do you think an infinitely holy and just God, who hates all unrighteousness with an unending, supremely righteous indignation, is going to look at your pathetic efforts and false righteousness and say, "Good enough; come on in!"? Examine yourself...are you really "good enough"? --Joe! |

4 | Is salvation by faith only scriptural? | James 2:14 | Hank | 54643
The "filty rags" that, in God's sight, are the do-gooders' righteousness [Isa.64:6] should be convincing enough to a rational mind that works don't save. Yet there are legions who feel that they simply must do something to earn their salvation; apparently, grace is not viewed as sufficient for them. They prize their own works, viewing them as salvific. This shows a limping faith to be sure, but perhaps not so weak a faith as a strong dose of egotism. --Hank
