Acts 2:38 and 39 give us Peter telling them that if they were to repent, they can recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost, they can recieve the same thing that these men who they called 'drunk' have, which they called them drunk because they were boldy out in the street, speaking in other tongues. Peter is adressing to them that they too can have this same thing in their lives. He even tells what the prophet had said about it. His context shows us he is talking about what happend to the 120 from Acts 2:4. Its like this, I can have water inside me, and it can be working in me to do what the natural body needs to live, but I could still dehydrate because I don't have enough. I'm saying that according to the book of Acts, these men got more than just a measure of the Spirit inside of them that we all get at the new birth. They allowed themselves to be totally immersed into the Spirit. I'm not denying that every born again believer has the Holy Spirit in them, I am just saying they don't have at the new birth all that God wants for them to have. He wants to totally immerse you into that anointing, into that Spirit so that you can have power to live a successful life. |

Hello miller, OK, here's where my confusion stems from. You stated "He wants to totally immerse you into that anointing, into that Spirit so that you can have power to live a successful life." I hear what you're saying, but WHAT does this mean? Can you provide a scriptural framework to explain this? It would seem that you're referring to the process of sanctification! As 1 Cor. 1:30 tells us, "But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption,..." Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

When I say that the immersion will help us to live a successful life I am talking about Acts 1 when Jesus said that we would recieve power when the Holy Ghost had come upon us. I am saying that power of God, will lead to success in your life. Living in God's will is always going to bring success. |

Miller, How so? Your loosing me a bit. What SCRIPTURAL basis can I draw from to understand this? Acts 1 has come and gone. A believer is either baptized by the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:13) and has the Spirit or not (Rom. 8:9) Are you talking about 2 different and distinct fillings/blessings, or what? How would you then define success? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Acts is the basis for this discussion. I am drawing a distinction from being baptized BY the Holy Spirit, which is what has happed at the new birth, to being baptized INTO the Spirit. Everyone who is born again has the Spirit, that doesn't mean they are immersed into it. Read Acts 4:31, if they had all they needed at the new birth, whats going on here? |

Hello miller, OK, I understand that Acts is the basis for this discussion. (We may very well have divergent views on the purpose of Acts for the Church age, but that's another discussion.) It would be very helpful to stick with and use Biblical terms and definitions! From which scripture(s) do you derive and support this distinction of "BY the Holy Spirit, which is what has happed at the new birth, to being baptized INTO the Spirit."??? What scripture says that a believer, "doesn't mean they are immersed into it."??? Still in love, I await your reply:-) BradK |

Acts 1 and 2 we are told that 'you shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence' Acts 2:4 tells us they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. Acts 4 shows us that it happened to them yet again ( which is whwere I ask if they had all the needed at the new birth where did this come from ) And Baptized BY the spirit, comes from 1 Cor 12:13 |

Hello miller, I'm sorry,my friend! I just am not able to fully comprehend the distinction you're making! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

Let me try to put it another way. If the Spirit baptizes us INTO the Body of Christ, it is the Holy Spirit who is at work to place us into that Body. If I am baptized WITH the Holy Ghost, I am saying I am immersed with the Holy Ghost. If I baptize you with water, I would immerse you into the water.I would dunk you all the way under, because I am immersing you. Like a submarine, a submersible ( spelling sorry ) So the distinction is one of great importance, in Corinithians we are being told about the Spirits work in our life, how He is baptizing us into the Body of Christ. In Acts we are talking about ourselves being baptized into the Spirit. I'm not sure how else to phrase it. But I'll ask you again, if a believer has all of the Holy Ghost they need at the new birth, what is going on in Acts 4, were they not born again yet? |

miller, In Acts chapter four yes they were already saved. Acts 4:8a- Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit (He had already been filled.) How does one get any more of what God has already given them. Does one person have more of the Spirit than another? The answer is an emphatic no. Paul tells us in Romans that God is no respecter of persons. In terms of salvation or what he will do for those who are already born again. Brother God already gave you what you were ever gonna need when you were saved. He gave you the whole kit and caboodle when you accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior. (Acts 2:38) In Him, lionheart |
