Good question, I'll do my best! First off at the end of Luke's gospel we have Jesus telling his disciples what today most of us call the 'Great Commission' its the go into all the world and preach the Gospel, see Luke 24:47. However, if you keep reading Jesus tells them that they indeed are his witness, but before they can go and witness to anyone, they need to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Holy Ghost. In the book of Acts chapter 1 Jesus is telling them again, that they will recive power when the Holy Ghost has come upon them. He is telling these born again followers that even though they are called to be his witness, they aren't allowed to do so untill they have been endued with power from on high. In Acts 2:4 we see the Holy Ghost comes into this planet, and he sat upon each of the 120 that were in that upper room that day and it says 'They were all filled with the Holy Ghost and spoke with other tongues as the Spirit gave them the utterance' This was their total immersion into the Holy Ghost. Peter taught who could have this total immersion he said that the promise is for everyone ( Acts 2:38-39) Peter tells them that if they repent and turn from their sins, that they too can recieve the gift of the Holy Ghost, and he says that this promise is not just for them, but for anyone who will come to God. In the Scriptures I referenced in my earlier post I used 1 Cor 12, there we can keep reading and see that Paul said when we were born again the Spirit baptized us into the Body of Christ, everyone who is born again has been baptized into the Body of Christ by the Spirit of God, and has partaken, or as he said been made to drink, into one Spirit. This of course he speaks about when we are born again. This is what those in the upper room had, yet even thought the Spirit had baptized them into the body of Jesus, they had not yet been baptized into the Spirit of God, ie. baptize meaning 'immersion' So to answer your question, immersion is to be totally covered, its where he is not only with you, but also in you ( John 14:17) And those who have it, are those who have asked for it (Luke 11:13) And it does appear that being filled with the Holy Ghost does bring a life change in the persons life with the gift of speaking in other tongues, which is for another discussion I assume, but as Paul pointed out he uses it in his prayer time, as do I. |

Hello miller, So, are you saying that one must be TOTALLY immersed in (or by) water to be "immersed into the Holy Spirit" I'm not quite following. One either has the Spirit or they don't (Rom. 8:9) Can you clarify? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

I'm not talking about water at all. I'm confused as to what your confusion on my post is! Sorry. | ||||||

Hello miller, I'm following you as far as the scripture references you gave. Iunderstand them fine. I guess my confusion is in understanding your conclusion? I'm not sure what you're concluding in comparison to what I understand about the Spirit's work and operation in the believer! Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

I am saying that you have the Holy Spirit in your life when you are born again. It is actually the Holy Spirit which baptizes us into the body of Christ. However, you are not totally immersed into the Holy Ghost. The 120 in that upper room knew Jesus Christ as their Lord and savior, yet in Acts 2:4 we see that they were all filled with the Holy Ghost. This is to be something that happens throughout the life of the beleiver. When Paul wrote, be not drunk with wine wherein is excess but be filled with the Spirit speaking to yourselves in spiritual songs singing and making meolody in your heart to the Lord, when we read this the be filled with the spirit as it reads in the King James is taken from the Greek perfect present tense, its a continuous present, just like salvation, in other words it would be 'be being filled with the Spirit' We see this in Acts 4:31, they had already been totally immersed into the Holy Ghost, yet it happens again. This is because it is something that can keep happening to the beleiver. why it has to happen more than once, I'm not sure, God knows. But from Scripture we can see that it does happen. |

Hello miller, OK, once again I'm a little confused by your terminology! What scripture tells us we are "not totally immersed into the Holy Ghost"? Are you possibly referring to Eph. 5:18?- "And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" The idea being that we (as believers) need to CONTINUALLY keep on being filled with the Spirit? (cf. Gal. 5:16). Example using an analogy: Cars run on gas, but they also eventually run out and need to be refilled. A car can only go so far on a tank of gas. Hence, a believer needs to be refueled so-to speak witht he Spirit. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
