1 | Joe, baptism required for Lord's Supper? | 1 Cor 11:27 | Searcher56 | 63082
Scripture ... Acts 2:38-41, 8:12-17, 8:36-28, 9:18 (22:16), 10:47-48, 16:14-15, 16:31-33, 19:1-5; 1 Cor 1:14-17 ... Joe, It appears that baptism occured right away in the accounts of Acts. While Paul rarely baptized (1 Cor 1:14-17), I'd think someone else did it, right away. Many churches want to wait until the person understands what baptism is, before they'll baptize. They may let them partake of the Lord's Supper before they are baptized. While I don't understand why churches do it this way, it is a minor doctrinal difference. I wouldn't push it. Searcher |

2 | Joe, baptism required for Lord's Supper? | 1 Cor 11:27 | Hank | 63085
Searcher, it seems odd indeed that church leaders would permit a new believer access to the Lord's table while at the same time causing him to go through a "probationary" period before allowing him to be baptized. I wonder how they presume to know that the new believer "automatically" understands all about holy communion but must be tutored on water baptism? Leaders of such a church would be hard pressed to justify their actions by scriptural example. --Hank
