1 | Who is the we in John 4:20? | John 15:1 | Ray | 14683
Hi KINDNESS, I wish to thank Tim and Sandman for their work here in this study of John 4:20-22. They have persuaded me to make some changes in "my personal copy". Verse 22 reads,..."we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews." I had capitalized the "We" thinking that because the word "people" was not in the Greek that the "you" and the "we" were talking of Deity. You have all convinced me otherwise and I will leave my NASB just as written for those verses. However, in the light of what we have all been saying about the place of worship I would like you to consider changing your "personal copies" concerning the spirit in verses 23 and 24. Would you consider this reading from "my person copy" for whatever it is worth. John 4:23, "But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and truth." Is this interpretation, using the capitalization of Spirit, not what we have all been saying? Where else was Jesus suggesting that He be worshiped if not in Spirit? Verse 21 says *an hour is coming* when "neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father." Verse 22 is the key, for by verse 23 "an hour is coming, and now is." Our answer is in those verses of Spirit and truth. Compare John 4:26, John 8:54, and John 14:17 John 4:26,"Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am *He." John 8:53, "Surely You are not greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died too; whom do You make Yourself out to be?" Jesus answered, "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say, "He is our *God";" John 14:17, "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the *Spirit of truth,..." |

2 | What or Who is wisdom? 1 Cor 1:30 | John 15:1 | KINDNESS | 14703
What is Wisdom? We have explored "what is truth" Can we say that Jesus Himself is Wisdom? Look at 1 Cor 1:30,31 and then check out Proverb 8:12-36 and Col.1:15,16,17. Do you see a connection between thses verses? Can you add some of your own? |

3 | What or Who is wisdom? 1 Cor 1:30 | John 15:1 | Searcher56 | 14710
KINDNESS, Can we say that Jesus Himself is Wisdom? ... I wouldn't say that. "Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God" (1Co 1:30) does not say that. The context (vv 18-31) talks about wisdom. Verse 25 says "the foolishness of God is wiseer than Man's wisdom." We need Christ and His wisdom. Proverbs 8 is the call of wisdom. Wisdom and folly are compared in chapter 9. Col 1:15-17 is about the supremacy of Christ. Steve |

4 | What or Who is wisdom? 1 Cor 1:30 | John 15:1 | KINDNESS | 14725
Thanks Steve for that observation. I think you are right. But how I think of it for myself is that when I am obedient to the Word of God and walk in the Light, Christ becomes my wisdom, He lives in and through me sharing His wisdom with me so that I have the mind of Christ 1 Cor. 2:16 available always to me. Unfortunately I am not always obedient nor do I always understand or discern what His will is, to follow. I guess it takes lots of practice. In the Col.1:15-17 vs. I was trying to make a connection between Prov.8:30 "the master craftsman" and Christ being the Creator of all things. All the persons of the Godhead were involved in Gen.1 but in the NT Jesus Christ gets the credit. Do you think in Prov. 8 we have wisdom personified? Why is wisdom spoken of in the femine gender? Is it a Hebrew language thing? Waiting for your input. Thanks. Kindness |

5 | What or Who is wisdom? 1 Cor 1:30 | John 15:1 | Searcher56 | 14745
Kindness ... You asked, "Do you think in Prov. 8 we have wisdom personified?" ... Yes, as well as folly in the surrounding chapters. It gives a better illustration. You asked, "Why is wisdom spoken of in the feminine gender? Is it a Hebrew language thing?" ... Possibly. I think it was the mothers that taught their children. Timothy learned from his mother and grandmother (2 Tim 1:5). I think it is one reason why the mother's names are listed when the king's are mentioned. Steve |
