1 | Is Jesus God? | John 1:1 | jg8ball | 1311 | ||
Can anyone show me any passages that show that Jesus is God? A friend of mine believes that Jesus is the Son of God but not God (and the Holy Spirit is the action of God but not God). I've shown him many verses but most can also be interpreted as separate individuals (for example: I baptize you in the name of the Father and in the Son, and in the Holy Spirit could be interpreted as baptizing in the name of the three separate entities.) I've also shown him the classic John 1:1 and similar verses but he interprets it at Jesus and God think alike, have the same mission, similar in nature, etc... Is there something in the Bible that very simply and cleary says that the Three are one? To me there are many verses that state this clearly, but to him, they state something completely different. |

Yes, Jesus is God. (Matt 10:40; Matt 11; Matt 28; John 3; 5; 6; 8; 10; 12; 14; 15; 16; 17; Acts 2; 1 Cor 1; 12; 13; Eph 4; 6; Phil 2:6; Col 1; 2; 3; 1 Thess 3; 2 Thess 2; 1 John 2; 1 John 5; Rev 20; Rev 22.) Yes, He is God. Kalos is giving you many references, all of them are good, but they could not work for a JW, because they have their own "translation", it is a poor translation, but it is theirs anyway. There is one book that they have not changed and it is the same in all translations, including theirs, Revelation. Rev 1:7 "Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him; and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen." It is obvious that we are talking about Jesus, because the Father was not ever pierced. Rev 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty" It should be clear that the Lord said "I am the Almighty", I am the Alpha and the Omega" and the one that was "pierced", but we will continue in this. Rev 1:16 "And he has in his right hand seven starts, and out of his mouth went a sharp twoedged sword …" There is no doubt that he is the Word, Jesus, the Son Rev 1:17 " … Fear not; I am the first and the Last:" Again the Son tells us I am God the Almighty, here He is talking. Rev 1:18 "I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forever …" I am sure your friend will understand that the Father was not ever dead. Rev 22:12 "And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me …" I think that your friend knows that the one that is coming is the Lord, the Son, Jesus, the one that continues Rev 22:13 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the Last" Yes, my friend He is God. Nonetheless, you will find many people that have problems to understand the Trinity, and we cannot blame them. The main reason is in the way they think, it is for them too difficult to deal with abstractions. But for you, my friend, I tell you: God could manifest Himself in the way He pleases, we insignificant mortals cannot tell you I do not want you to appear, or revel yourself as a cloud or as a new moon. He has manifested himself in three different forms: as the Father, as the Son, and, as the Holy Spirit. And He is God in each one of his manifestations, He could also manifest Himself as a talking tree, I think that we would get very afraid is such a think happens, but He could. The fact is that we know about God because of his manifestations and the Holy Trinity is the abstraction we made of His three different manifestations. We call each of this manifestations a person, because this is another abstraction of the language to represent such a manifestation, not because a person is an individual. The problem of many is that they cannot separate these two abstractions and then they think that every person of the Trinity would be an individual, this personal inhability lets them to believe that we believe in three Gods, we just have to pray for them and recommend them to take some minerals to straight up their wires, and to help them to make the right wiring. You are a very lucky man, founding a JW that is open mind. Should you convince him to use your Bible, not his, you can use all the ammunition that Kalos gave to you. In any case, if he buy the idea from Revelations, I would take Kalos as the best option for him to understand. You brother Oscar |
