1 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Asis | 100369
Ray The word pnuema is translated as spirit or Spirit. I have come across a work by E.W. Bullinger called Word study of the Holy Spirit. He is much more the Greek scholar than I could ever hope to be. There are 14 usages of the word pnuema: 1 God 2 Christ 3 The Holy Spirit 4 The operation of the Holy Spirit 5 The new nature 6 Psychological 7 Character 8 Metonymy - That which is invisible as opposed to the flesh 9 Synldoche - put for the whole (pnuema put for ones self 10 Adverbial - Implying essence 11 Angels or spirit beings 12 Demons or evil spirits 13 The ressurection body 14 Pnuema Hagion Now as to John 3:6 Bullinger agrees with you. The the first word Spirit is the Holy Spirit and should be capitalized. My error. The pnuema is given the meaning Spirit or spirit at what seems to be the whim of the translator. That which is of the Holy Spirit is of the new nature and that which is of the new nature is of the Holy Spirit. Either one works. Our new nature is what we become when we are born again. I know I didn't give myself a new nature so it must have been God. If He chooses to use the Holy Spirit to do that it is OK by me. I only care that I have been made new. The old has passed away and all the new things come from God. I think you would find Bullinger's book very intersting. He also has another called the Companion Bible. Both can be bought from Christian Book Distributers. Here is another one for you. Galatians 5:16-18 16But I say, walk by the Spirit(new nature?), and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit(new nature?), and the Spirit(new nature?) against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18But if you are led by the Spirit(new nature?), you are not under the Law. How can my flesh be so strong as to win a fight against the Holy Spirit of God, the power that raised Christ from the dead. But my new nature is in conflict with the flesh and my soul, my mind, will and emotions, can't make up its mind who to listen to. New nature or body? Since my new nature is filled with the things of God and is direct communion with the Holy Spirit my spirit does what the Holy Spirit wants while my flesh says no way! Interesting. Translators are not infallible. I would rather have a expert in Greek who is an atheist translate the Bible than one who is shaded by his beliefs. No bias. 1 John 4:2 try this. "By this you know the spirit(angels) of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God; and every spirit(demons) that does not confess Jesus is not from God;..." 2 | How do you "share the Gospel?" | Matt 28:18 | Ray | 100897
Hi Asis, I have some capitalization questions for you so that I can know exactly what you are saying and that we can be consistent in what we are saying. In post #100792 you wrote about "walking in the spirit (New Nature)." Here in this post you talk about "walk by the Spirit (new nature?)". I surmise that like me you have a few things yet in pencil. Here is my slant on this. I would think that the chosen word of Spirit or spirit should agree with the parenthesis. I.e. "spirit (new nature). Galatians 5:25 says "If we live by the Spirit, let us walk by the Spirit." I believe that that capitalization is correct in that it is talking about those who belong to Christ Jesus. The next chapter goes on and talks about those who are spiritual and how we should have a spirit of gentleness. I believe that that lower case is correct also because it is our new nature. Galatians 6:6, "For the one who sows to his own flesh shall from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit shall from the Spirit reap eternal life." 1) So in regard to what you wrote above I would disagree and say that the new nature is of the *holy *spirit [sic]. 2) You wrote that "Since my new nature is filled with the things of God and is in direct communion with the Holy Spiriit my spirit does what the Holy Spirit wants while my flesh says no way!" When thinking about being filled with the things of God, how close are we in thought if you were to consider that we are filled with the holy spirit ; the things of God. 3) In #100344 you wrote of "Jesus the man filled with the Holy Spirit". Would you consider with me the capitalization that I would suggest? I would talk of "Jesus the Man filled with the holy spirit." From the heart, Ray P.S. If you think that this discussion would be of interest to others, perhaps you would introduce a new thread and question for us. |

3 | God's or ours | Matt 28:18 | Asis | 101282
Ray We have been born again by beliving God. Our spirit, our inner man, has been reborn by the Holy Spirit. Our spirit has been made perfect, complete again . . . RE generation. The Spirit of God and our spirit are in union. They work as one. When God tells us to do something it is through this union that the action is relayed. Our spirit communicates with our mind will and emotions, our soul. Our soul moves our body to talk, lay hands, pray, etc., complete the action. If we walk by the power of our soul rather than the power of our spirit (Holy Spirit power) then whose action is it? God's or ours? |

4 | God's or ours | Matt 28:18 | Ken hepting | 101308
Great question, Ray! I see, from scripture, that our soul is to be made perfect through sufferings/trials/temptations. The perfecting of our souls is OUR responsibility unto "sonship" with the Father. See 1 Pet...1 John. Our soul is to come into union with the Father's MIND and that through our perfect[ed] spirit by the work of Himself as you have stated. This is the work any born again believer needs to be about instead of wearing out his/her "dedicator" every Sunday in a "woe is me" contrition...And every preacher ought to be about preaching that it not be necessary if one gets on in the becoming unto God, that which He has purposed. |

5 | God's or ours | Matt 28:18 | Asis | 101485
How are you gonna perfect your soul? If you could do it what is the point of Jesus death on the Cross and the promise of the Holy Spirit. God breaks every barrier we have between Him and us with trials/tribultions. Temptations are nothing more than temptations. The world's way or satan's way of asking you who do you choose? God or us. Our soul, our thinking, our doing it is not the way of God. That is what Adam did in the garden. He chose to do it his way instead of what God wanted. We are God's sons just because we believe God. Romans 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. [KJV] Romans 8:15-17 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. [16] The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: [17] And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. [KJV] It displeases God when WE do the work. the only way to please God is Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. [KJV] God wants you broken and contrite. Kowing that you can do nothing of yourself. Asis |
