Subject: Baptism in the holy spirit? |
Bible Note: Hi Taleb, I had a little trouble finding your Romans 8:11 reference. What version did you use? This is a good verse to compare/contrast with Colossians 1:27, for not only is the Spirit in you but also "Christ in you, the hope of glory." I simply wondered if you had in mind something besides Deity. When reading your post the other day my Bible was open to Acts 6 where there are many things that we can be filled with. For instance, verse 3, wisdom; verse 5, faith; verse 8, grace and power. These are things with which we can be filled. Verses 3 and 5 combines those things with the [Holy,NKJ] Spirit and Holy Spirit but Scripture also combines wisdom with a lower case spirit. That would be situation for Acts 6:11 where the King James chooses the lower case. "And they were unable to resist the wisdom and the spirit [sic] by which he spake." So we can have the Spirit of God in us and we can have a spirit in us. Daniel is an example of this. Daniel 5:11, NKJ, "There is a man in your kingdom in whom is the Spirit of the Holy God... 12 Inasmuch as an excellent spirit, [sic] knowledge, understanding, interpreting dreams, solving riddles, and explaining enigmas were found in this Daniel...14 I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you." Wisdom and spirit are often found in close proximity. Ephesians 1:17, "that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him." I submit to you that this [holy] spirit of wisdom and of revelation leads us to knowledge of Spirit and faith in the Lord Jesus. I have been asking charismatics what they are filled with; I would suppose that you would say that you are filled with God or Spirit. I am simply having you consider other options. Deuteronomy 34:9, "Now Joshua the son of Nun was filled with the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him;..." From the heart, Ray |
