Bible Question:
pberardi I would like to apologize for anyone who jumps down your throat for your views about pastors remaining single. I believe that a pastor who has no wife would probably be able to dedicate much more of his time to the Lord than his married colleague. That being said, I am eager for your take on 1 Tim. 3 that states that a elder should be the husband of but one wife. Does this mean that he MUST marry or that IF he marries, he can only marry one woman. I've never discussed this with anyone before and would greatly appreciate your opinion. |
Bible Answer: Hello F.o.o.t.man, Since pberardi has not posted since the posting you answered, maybe I can help. In view of Paul's commendation to the church in Corinth that singleness can be viewed as a gift, I would not require an elder to marry. The stipulation of one woman is to prevent both polygamy and easy divorce. Steve |
