Bible Question: Does satan control your thoughts? Or does he know what you are thinking then alter that? |
Bible Answer: Hi, cbrinkmeyer! I've come accross that idea since I was a child... No, Satan cannot control your thoughts! God who can search your whole being (1 Corinthians 2:6-16) chooses not to do so! In Job we see a clear example of Satan's power and limits (Job 1:6-12). And in Matthew 4:2-11 we also see not only his powers but his boldness; yet, Satan yields to God every time. Genesis 3:15 is the most dramatic depiction of Satan's impotence: the serpent's head is subjugated! James 1:13 and 1 Corinthians 10:13 tell us about temptation and the support mechanism that is in place. Satan, the father of lies, can manipulate even God's own words (as with Eve--surely you will not die...) But he does not have the power to enter our thoughts. Though there is a Biblical example when he did (Judas' betrayal), but only because God had given Satan the authority to do so (John 17:12). But what we really should be worrying about is (James 4:8), are WE getting CLOSER to GOD? Blessed Christmas! |
