Subject: GOD TURNED HIS BACK ON JESUS WHEN JESUS |
Bible Note: Aixen7z4 First God and Jesus are One how does One separate Himself from the other. When we are deepest in sin does God turn from us or does He reach out to us in Love saying take M y Hand? Jesus said He would never leave us nor forsake us yet when Jesus needed Him most we suppose God left him. What Jesus said was a quote from the beginning of Psalm 22. Psalm 22 is a vivid description of the crucifixion that Jesus was presently experiencing. By Jesus quoting this well known scripture to the crowd He was once more testifying of His love, and His desire for them to know the truth that he was in fact the Messiah. When the psalmist wrote Psalm 22 he was crying out from his personal predicament, his cry my God my God why did you forsake me. Had God forsaken the psalmist? Absolutely not, again the assurance God would never leave us nor forsake us. However in his sorrow it seemed that way to Psalmist therefore Jesus knowing that God hadn't forsaken the psalmist certainly wouldn't have quoted something like that had God really left Him. I believe the idea that is commonly taught in the church that God had turned His back on Jesus was because of the quote Jesus made and people not realizing it was the beginning lines of Psalm 22 which speaks of the crucifixion. Not making this connection they tried to explain by human reasoning that Jesus was in sin so God had to turn His back on Him, that is a concept not found anywhere in the Bible. Also while Jesus carried the sins of the world he wasn’t a sinner Jesus was still the perfect lamb of God the propitiation of our sins, He took on our sins He didn’t defile Himself by committing our sins. Lastly we see in the Bible that God talks to Satan and Satan is the epitome of sin, If God has to turn from sin then why not from Satan himself? Once again while we were still in sin God reached out to us. There is no Scripture basis to say God forsook Christ once we have proper understanding of what Jesus meant when He said My God My God why have you forsaken me. EdB |
