Subject: Satan said I will how many times? |
Bible Note: Glory Bound I have read this thread with some interest. You say some translations are inspired and others aren't. My understanding is the Bible is inspired and a translation is just that a translation. However I will concede some translations are far better than others. I personally find the Living Bible to be distasteful. While I think the New Living Translation to be excellent. When asked which translations you thought were inspired you listed the NIV and KJV, picking those two interests me. I totally understand KJV but the NIV is using different set of manuscripts than the KJV. It is those manuscripts many people find objectionable and thus resist using newer translations like the NASB, ESV and NIV. Therefore I’m a little at a lost to understand your rational for picking the NIV. I noticed in one response you mention the leading of the Holy Spirit as your guide in making a decision on translations. And that even more amazes me as I think the NIV handles the Holy Spirit poorly and in fact almost reduces Him down to a power rather than a personality. Also the NIV is published by Zondervan that brought out a politically correct gender neutral version after promising the Christian leadership they wouldn’t. After the heat died down Zondervan very quietly brought out the TNIV which to me indicates deception and therefore my boycott of all Zondervan material. I’m sorry I didn’t mean to go into this much detail but I’m curious in light of all of this why to declare the NIV to be inspired and evidently reject many others that I think deserve consideration? Perhaps you would explain why you don’t seem to have a manuscript conflict that many do that object to the newer versions? I would also love to understand why you think a paraphrase which admittedly isn’t a word for word translation is better than say the NASB which used the same manuscripts and is a word for word translation? If this seems hostile in anyway I apologize I’m just trying to understand your rather unique position on Bible translations. Again I apologize if it seems like I’m challenging you or anything like this, I’m not but I’m real curious. EdB |
