Subject: The Problem with WoF in a nutshell |
Bible Note: Greetings Jim! I think that we sometimes forget exactly what the Bible is! It is God's self revelation to man. It is truth. Granted, we worship the Author, not the book. However, if we want to know the Author, we primarily come to know Him through His book. If we want to know what God expects from us, we don't have to guess, we can read for ourselves in His Word. That is why Scripture is so important, it is an objective standard. The early church walked in the Spirit, but they too had false teachers who tried to prevert God's truth for their own gain. In fact, some of the Bible was written as a direct response to some of these false teachers. For instance, Galatians was written as a response to the Judiazers who tried to mix Law and Grace. Colossians was written to combat an early form of Gnosticism, which tried to deny the Deity of Christ. False teachers are not just overly enthustiastic, they deliberately prevert God's Word for their own gain. They must be confronted and exposed. Those who might be led astray by their false teachings need to be made aware of their error. However, I do believe that this can and should be done in a loving and gracious manner. But, no matter how lovingly or graciously one confronts error, someone will not like it! :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
