Subject: The Problem with WoF in a nutshell |
Bible Note: apostoloB -- Having read your long post, I disover that I could easily construct a series of questions from virtually every sentence. But even though it is Labor Day, I won't assign myself so much toil as that. Instead, I have chosen to quote a small portion of your post, for the sake of handy reference, and follow up with a few questions. ...... You wrote: "It wasn't until men began translating the bible...that there were difficulties with understanding what God has said...When you operate in the spirit, there is no need for translation." ...... Questions: The Jews of the Old Testament had no translation, but did they have any difficulties with understanding what God said? And the Judaisers who stirred up trouble for Paul in the book of Acts. Was translation the culprit? And what about the false doctrines that plagued the early apostolic church -- was it brought about by translation? ..... You say that when you operate in the spirit, there is no need for translation. Yet I notice that you quoted some Bible verses in English. Why? Are you fluent in biblical Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic? Did you initially learn about Jesus from a Greek manuscript or perhaps from a Greek-speaking tutor? ..... Now, Jim, I'm not ridiculing you or your post. But doesn't it seem fair enough for me to be accorded the same option to question some of your statements as you exercised in making them? --Hank |
