Bible Question: Is it right for a Christian to be cremated? I have struggled with this one for some time. Pastors I have spoken to cannot agree on this matter as some say it is unscriptual for a believer to be cremated whilst others tell me it makes no difference. What does God's Word say? |
Bible Answer: Ken John, I agree with EdB in post # 110165. There is not found any direct commandment or law for this, only tradition. But, you, not this forum or anyone else can tell you what to do concerning this matter. Any support or answers you might find here is for your consideration, only. Therefore, I would truly bring it before the Lord and let Him reveal what He would have you to do. If you get no answer or you are not sure of the answer, then I would say do not. I say that only for the fact that you have brought up the subject so you must have concerns of right or wrong. This is very personal in your life and should be considered carefully. If you are in doubt, then don’t. (Rom 14:23) “ …for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.” Paul says that all things are lawful, but not always the best thing to do. It may be that others involved in this type ceremony may be offended. That is why Paul says we should not put a stumbling block in front of one that may be weaker in their faith. You may want to ask if any would be offended. (1Co 10:32-33) Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God: even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of the many, that they may be saved. Personally, there is no offense in cremation, but for conscience sake, burial. If there is a monetary problem, however your heart decides, God will supply your need. Be of good cheer, the Comforter will lead you into all truth. Possibly some things are silent in the Scriptures so that we will have more incentive to come to the Throne of Grace. Peace |
