Subject: Extra-Biblical source for understanding? |
Bible Note: Dear Steve, This phrase is found in the Book of the Judges, 13:5, refering to Samson. The OT and NT words translate differently, the OT saying "Nazarite", the NT says "Nazarene". They both have the same meaning, "consecrated, seperated". I have a feeling (and maybe one of the language experts could correct me) that it is the same as "Isaiah"(OT) and "Esaias(NT)", or "Elijah"(OT) and "Elias"(NT). Another reference is in Isaiah 53:3, He was despised and forsaken of men, A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief; And like one from whom men hide their face He was despised, and we did not esteem Him." This refers to Nazareth, an area despised by most of Israel, and why so many could not believe that the Messiah would come from such an area.
