Subject: Introducing the English Standard Version |
Bible Note: Nolan, good buddy, it's pleasant to have you back; I have a meeting scheduled with the board of directors to consider doubling your salary..... You're up to your usual stunts of posting quality stuff, and I think you've done a superb job in reviewing this new kid on the block, the English Standard Version (ESV)...... Personally I've declared an end to my futuile effort to try to keep abreast of this never-ending surge of new translations. For one thing, I simply can't seem to find time to read them all with any degree of thoroughness, and for another I am rapidly emptying my wallet in their pursuit! However, I would welcome one more translation, the TEAFT, meaning Translation to End All Further Translations :-). Seriously, until sufficient time has elapsed to merit an update in language of present translations, or until some sweeping discovery of heretofore unknown ancient manuscripts takes place, I'm content to stick by my Big Three versions, cited here in alphabetical order: New American Standard Bible, New International Version, and New King James Version. If I manage to read, study, learn, and inwardly digest as much as 10 percent of the truth contained between their covers, I should be, it seems to me, among the wisest of men on earth...... Well, thanks again, Nolan, for enriching the forum with this post and -- now it's accurate to say -- literally thousands of others. It's nice to have you back, refreshed from your sabbatical and in fine tune. Continued blessings to you in His name. --Hank |
