Bible Question:
Aloha Brad, Mark, Doc and CDBJ, Some of us out there have very analytical minds and things have to make sense. The bible says to reason together and study the word to be able to give an account for your belief. It also says that God is not the author of confusion. My questions are pertaining to four prophecies of Jesus that are blatantly false. How could Jesus make false prophesies as he is God the son? Failed prophesy #1: Matt 12:40, "For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." We all know that from Friday afternoon to early Sunday morning one cannot find three days and three nights. Then again it is confirmed in Mark 8:31, saying AFTER three days he will rise again. We all know that an evening and a morning constitute a full day Failed prophesy #2: Matt 16:28, "Assuredly, I say to you, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." Well it's been nearly 2000 years and Christ hasn't yet returned and surely those he was speaking to are not still alive. Are they? Failed prophesy #3: John 14:12, "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father." Either it's a false prophesy or there hasn't been one believer yet. Can you name any believers who have matched or done greater works than Jesus, such as raise the dead, turn water into wine, walk on water or feed 5000 people with two fishes and five loaves of bread? False prophesy #4: Mark 16:15-18, Jesus tells his disciples there will be signs that follow those who believe. The believers will cast out demons, speak with new tongues, handle snakes, drink poisons without getting hurt and will be able to heal the sick. Again, either it is a false prophesy or there has never been anyone who really believes. Do you know of anyone who can drink poison and not get hurt? Can you all explain these without getting confusing? Thank you very much. Always seeking the truth, pukalanian |
Bible Answer: Pukalanian, You would do well to review the Forum Guidelines. This forum is for those who do not question the authority of the Bible. Obviously, you do. But I believe that the Bible gives no false prophecy. #1 - If you follow the popular teaching that Jesus was crucified on Friday, then this is certainly a problem. But if you follow the actual Passover Schedule, He was crucified on Thursday, and died Thursday about 3 pm. In Jewish chronology, a part of a day is counted towards that day. He died before sunset on Thursday. Thurs Day and Night - Day 1. Fri Day and Night - Day 2. Sat Day and Night - Day 3. No problem. People think He died on Friday because the next day was a Sabbath, but what they forget is that the Passover is also a Sabbath, which was on Friday. Jesus was killed as they sacrificed the sheep for Passover, on Thursday. According to Moses, the Passover Lamb was to be chosen on the 10th of Nisan, inspected for 4 days, and killed on the 14th. Jesus entered Jerusalem on Sunday the 10, was in the temple daily Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and was killed on Thursday the 14th. #2 Peter and John were given a foretaste of Jesus in glory as Jesus met with Moses and Elijah, and they saw Jesus is His glory. #3 The works that Jesus did towards healing and raising from the dead, or turning water into wine, were of temporal value. Healing someone is good, but they still later will die, and the benefit of that work is lost. But when a man preaches Jesus, and another man believes, and is saved, that is a work that has eternal value - the benefit never ends, and that, in my book, is a greater work. #4 Not only does the Book of Acts show the fulfillment of those things, but hey, we don't know the full and entire history of all the nations, so I have no idea what is happening in other places, but let me also share with you this - A long time ago, in a very dark time in my life, I thought to end my life, and, among other things I did, I swallowed a full bottle of 75 pills - I'll not name them for safety's sake - being well over a fatal dose. They did not hurt me. Praise the Lord for bringing me through those days, and praise the Lord for protecting me from my stupidity, and from that poison. I hope I have not been confusing, and I hope you will not be so brash as to post on this forum that the Bible is false. It won't long be tolerated, I assure you. Love in Christ, Mark |
