Subject: Greek genitive cases of the word "of" |
Bible Note: Hi Makarios, I do not capitalize holy spirit in Ephesians 1:13 because I believe that verse 17 speaks of the same spirit that is given. I also believe that the Greek says or allows for "which" for verse 14. So to me the spirit of wisdom and revelation is the promised "holy spirit of promise" or "promised holy spirit" that is given or poured out. I see two pronouns of Deity in verse 13, "In Him" and having believed being "sealed in Him" if you use the NASB. "In whom" and "in whom" if you use the King James. I compare/contrast it with 2 Timothy 1:12b, "...for I know whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day. Retain the standard [pattern, NKJ] of sound words which you have heard from me, in the faith and love that is in Christ Jesus. Guard, through the Holy/ Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure [good deposit, down payment, pledge, promise, holy spirit?] which has been entrusted to you." Ephesians 1:12, "to the end that we who were the first to hope in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation--having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the *holy *spirit of promise, *which is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God/'s own possession, to the praise of His glory." I believe that the Holy Spirit indwells us when we trust in Him as our Savior. I also believe that the Scriptures talk of holy spirit. From the heart, Ray |
