Subject: How do I pray for myself? |
Bible Note: Dear David, 1 Thess 5:17 "pray without ceasing" does not mean to pray constantly every moment of every hour of every day. What it does mean is to not abandon prayer altogether. Prayer is an essential part of our spiritual life and we must strive to enter into prayer each and every day without ceasing. Acts 6:4 "But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word." Acts 6:4 in context does not support your statement. In fact it seves to refute it. The Apostles were being overwhelmed with their responsibilities and there devotion to prayer and ministry of the word was being hampered by these other needs of the church. Read verse 6 in context and you will see what I mean. Eph 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, Here again, I do not see that Paul is telling the Ephesians to pray constantly, but that when they pray they should "With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints," It is very important to read verses in context or one may jump to wrong conclusions.
