Bible Question: In the New Testament the Greek Jacobus is translated James. When did this Graecain occur and was Jacobus translated Jacob prior to the 1611 KJ version ? |
Bible Answer: johahmicah68 First Jacobus is the Greek word for the Hebrew name "Iakobos" Jacob is the Greek name for Iakob. For reasons I don't know the translators decided to translate the Greek name Jacob and Jacobus as James. When this occured again I don't know but there were other English translations before the KJV and I believe in one or two the name was stated as James. I haven't as yet been able to confirm that as fact. EdB |
