Subject: Church choirs? |
Bible Note: Hello, Searcher. Please allow me to clear up a statement that I made last evening involving the phrase "nailed to the cross." When I made the post, my mind was thinking in literal channels, and I posted that Christ did not nail anything to the cross, but was himself nailed to it. While this is literally true, metaphorically it certainly isn't, and thus my statement could well have been misleading. The other Steve [srbaego] has been very kind and extremely helpful to me in pointing out Paul's words in Col.2:14: "Having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross." John McArthur in his study Bible gives a nice commentary on this phrase, nailed it to the cross: "This is a metaphor for forgiveness. The list of the crimes of a crucified criminal were nailed to the cross with the criminal to declare the violations he was being punished for ... Believers' sins were all put to Christ's account, nailed to His cross as He paid the penalty in their place for them all, thus satisfying the just wrath of God against crimes requiring punishment in full." --Hank |
