Subject: Church choirs? |
Bible Note: Steve [Searcher], another brief follow-up to your post in which you said, "We tend to forget the OT." In my former post, I expressed agreement with you on this and would like to insert here a snippet from a sermon I heard many years ago. The preacher made a statement to the effect that Christ did away with the Law, nailing it to the cross. This is, of course, a false statement. In the first place, the record is clear that He didn't nail anything to the cross. It was He himself who was nailed to the cross. And in the second place, He did not 'do away' with the Law. He said, "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish but to fulfill." [Matt.5:17] Therefore, to treat the living word of God of the Old Covenant as a relic of the past that is no longer relevant is not "accurately handling the word of truth." [2 Tim.2:15] ....... To extract a verse in the New Testament that speaks of praising God in song and to extrapolate from it that God forbids musical instruments in worship, while ignoring massive Old Testament evidence that God's people have used them for centuries to praise and honor Him, and with His express approbation -- this, too, is an example of failure to accurately handle the word of truth. --Hank |
