Subject: thou hast left thy first love |
Bible Note: Dear Mommapsbs; Thank you; I found the previous response concerning "first love" I also noticed for the first time how the Amplified Version of the Bible renders this verse which if accurate, clarifies what is meant by this verse. Here is the Amplified Version redition of Rev. 2:4 - Revelation 2:4 But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love]. I notice that it states: "you have left (abandoned).... (deserted) Me, your first love." So that means they have deserted Jesus who is the one who gave this revelation to John. Therefore Jesus is what is intended by the words "first love" The church of Ephesus were in the process of leaving and abandoning Jesus, their first love. However they were given time to repent, (2:5) and if they failed to do so, then their candelstick (which I think refers to Christian witness, testimony, or influence in that area in which they resided) would be removed. |
