Bible Question: I have read the begining notes in the NASB, NIV, and other translations. I still feel the answer is inadequate for me, I wonder why the NASB and others like NIV does not take a big step, in what seems to me, to be more accurate, and use YHWH for LORD. I think most congreations are now more used to hearing the word Yahweh than in the past. THE NEW JERUSALEN BIBLE, uses it as Yahweh. This is a Catholic translation, and I find is refreshing to see the LORD used as Yahweh. I do not agree with the total translation. I would like to see the LORD refered to as Yahweh. Maybe someone knows of a good translation that says Yahweh. |
Bible Answer: It is an english translation. If they were to translate all Hebrew words to Hebrew. Would not that be an exercise in futility? I suppose there is a degree of sincere reverence in many that wonder which name is correct when addressing God. But since Jesus said Eloi on the cross, when he called out to My God., where does it end? We are talking about God here not man. God does not go by a proper name like Tom or Joe. When men asked God's name he answered with Covenant personalities. I AM, which means I am all that you need God to be to you. If you will obey me in faith |
